That's unbelievable, new BMW's use a similar system to this too, I wonder if that's also vulnerable

I HATE the keyless entry systems. Nothing but trouble when they break down, whatever. EG Hatch with engine out, you can't open the boot!
There is a stupid advert going for Fiestas showing people struggling to find their keys, then struggling to get into the car. Then along comes this smug bird and just hops in, because she's got the fob in her bag. What if she loses the bag? She'll have to pay Ford megabucks to get into the flippin thing, that's what.

The exploit is actually quite scary in how easy it is to work out. It might not take you 3 hours to understand the hack, but if you spent a month researching you could definitely pull it off. Add another month and $5K for good equipment and you can clear out parking lots.

Essentially this has been the deciding factor in not getting any new car. The more electronics manufacturers put in, the more faults are found. I really did want a new impreza 2.5i but there is no way I am pulling the engine just to remove the immobilizer and PSKE.

Would anyone know a recent Subaru without these "security" features ?

Surely even if they can start the engine it will be irrelevant because the steering lock will engage once they turn the wheel? All they can do is **** you off by using up all the fuel by the time you come back?

We all remember the towing incident in this video?

DannyM, that was shocking. Just a question why was he able to steer and get so far before the lock up?

The only way to tell is to actually replicate the hack, since the researchers were so stingy to provide futher details. I'm assuming that there is more to this hack, the SMS feature most likely has a flaw that allows the car to keep going without a lockup

EDIT: Yeap, definitely alittle more to the hack than reading the passwords and spoofing them. See: https://threatpost.com/en_us/blogs/w...control-072711

So not only is the connection in the open, but the password gives you a higher access than anything else. -____-'
Question, is Audiovox ( something like that) still making the remote start for Subaru's ?
