whats the first mod to be done, then?
Have our first Scooby. My98 turbo 2000 wagon. Absolutely original apart from 5inch stainless backbox. Otherwise standard.
Looking to mod in stages (of cash influx!) but primarily keep it normal-looking. Just goes when asked, not having to prove itself at every set of lights.. I'm 37 after all..grin.
So what's the mod that starts it all off and what is the top end power can i asppire to??
Thanks.. sure its been asked before but always a fun question..

Put some pictures up mate........... Could always start with an oil change to be extra sure! That would be my first port of call... there are plenty of mods about but whatever you do DO NOT get a bloody dump valve! Pointless and will get on your **** after a while....You are 37 after all HAHA
Welcome also.... people on here are very friendly!

first should be full de-cat exhaust system with upgraded panel filter .
then it gets a tad pricey
depending what power you want ??
you can get bigger fuel injectors along with a vf or tdo turbo?
if you do the above you will need an uprated walbro fuel pump, sti or aftermarket top mount intercooler and a remapped ecu .
gearbox is the weak link if wanting more after that lot ? but those mods and a decent mapper will see over 300bhp and would make your car fast and useable

agree with above.
Start with brakes, then suspension (Drop links, ARB's anti lift kit, proper geo set up) and then power.
Also worth changing the tyres if you have a set of ditch finders/budget/linglong/tingtong etc

Its been said before and I totally agree with it.
Exhaust should be number one
Get that flat4 burble free as you can faintly hear it under that standard exhaust. The good thing is you can do it in stages if need be. Back box first then centre de-cat then de-cat down pipe if you want to do the down pipe

Should read " the wrong car" in Alan Jeffery's column in total Impreza. The money folk spend on Turbos or WRX cars to give them STi power is unreal. Ad you have a wagon anyway, looks aren't important so...if you want 300hp,stiffer shocks, decent anti roll bars and excellent brakes, plus a rock solid gearbox, then look for a Bugeye STi! They're painfully cheap now and will insure cheaper than yours once you've added all the mods.
Just my 2p worth.

Oh so true... we need the wagon as Vicki has 9 horses with the associated kit, and i have a film company with all the similar amount of kit...
Ok, so anyone wanna play mommy (cos im being lazy) and start pricing it all up? And perhaps somewhere to get it all done.

this is just what i paid
the de-cat exhaust system was already done
. brand new ihi vf34 turbo £800
. second hand sti 550cc injectors £160
. second hand sti top mount intercooler £150
. walbro fuel pump £75
. roger clark induction kit £ 215
. the first ecu-tek remap is pricey at about £600 as you have to pay for the software , but every map after that i believe is around £150 ?

as for mine i dont know yet ? should be going in for a forged engine build next weekend ? been saving for well over a year with it off the road ! but expected to make minimum 320 maximum 350 its everyday driver so any more would be a

Totally agree with sorting the handling and braking out first. A well set up standard power Impreza will be a far better drive than one running 300 horses with standard suspension and brakes.
After that start saving again. You would be far better bolting all the tuning bits on at the same time. This would save on mapping costs as you would only need the car mapped once. You should buy bits as and when the budget allows and stick them to one side. Then once all the mods you want are together you could bolt them on and take it for mapping.
Also, how many miles has your car covered ? Remember these cars are getting old now and many have had spirited lives. What I'm trying to say is don't get too crazy chasing figures unless you can afford an engine build. My personal opinion, (not that it's worth much, lol) is to get the car driving right. Concentrate on handling and braking and then add some minor tuning mods. Exhaust, filter, pump (to be on the safe side) and mapping.
This is if your not planning on some serious engine work.

Thats the sort of thing im after... Its got 114k on the clock, so am happy for a fazt, drivable daily runndr. No bling, must erm,.. Zing...?
So handling, brakes, power..
My calipers are fine mechanically, but a nice rusty brown. Is it a simple task to get them renovated?
I hate this modding bug...

You can get your calipers refurbished by a chap called Ian Godney on here. He runs Godspeed Brakes and is THE man re. braking
If it's a lick of paint you need, hammerite smooth straight onto your calipers after a rub down with a wire brush/wipe with a cloth
Keep it looking standard externally and play with everything else
