The most astute comment was the 'top trumps' skit at the start. That's how a lot of people see the EVO vs Scoob arguments. Childish and belonging to the 1980's
Actually I thought it was a good review, even though it did'nt really tell us anything we did'nt already know. I.e Evo faster, scoob more practical.

Very short piece.Funny Tiff did'nt use or mention the front LSD and extra throttle to counter understeer but backed off the throttle. As mentioned 2 secs slower but 40 BHP down is not bad.Would have been interesting to see the Scoob against the 280 BHP model. If compared against the non Prodrive would have been close to 6k saving.Am I biased? Of course I bloody well am!!!!!!!

Was that Castle Coombe Tiff was at?
Not sure recognised bits but not all of it.
Good article but to short.
Saw VBH at Prescott last year, exactly as she appears on TV.
Thats all from me, time for American Werewolf in London, top movie!

Hiya all,
Thought the review was a bit unfair as the Evo had so much more power. Appart from that i thought both cars got what they deserve! The Evo has the raw edge where the STI has taken taken a different route to being more refined. Personally i prefer the STI in terms of ride, power delivery but most definitely not the looks! Had subaru put the all the revisions of the STI 7 in a GC8 chassis and they would clearly be the winner!!!

Interesting comparison... Shame it was so short!
To be honest he skipped over the shortcomings of both cars... And last time I saw understeer like that on a scooby, the front tyres were 10psi over-pressure... Is the STI really that bad for understeer? On the P1 you can get oversteer on demand... I would have thought Tiff could get it easy, or at least a nice neutral plant...
Oh well, looks like I will have to wait for the Makinen PPP STI!! (can't spell)
Still, better than the channel 4 sh1te!

We definatly need to see an sti with PPP up against the EVO as this will then be a price for price conparisan and based on tonight I imagine the STI will win hands down. Strange that Tiff was less complementary about the car in his article in Autocar.

LOL at all this, driven is crap 'cause the evo won, 5th gear is top because the Scooby won...
Got to laugh at it all, and I did see the autocar article - All this made me think - are subaru running a lot of advertising on C5? Are mitsubishi running at of advertising on C4? Pah who cares, nice to see some cars on telly.

well
i have got a 7 not the scary and powerful fq300 7 . now lets be real here, FQ300 is hardly going to be kicking anymore power than the standard one. it is just an exhuast and filter. it is a marketing ploy trying to get poeple to buy them really. they are lesser specced than the GSR models!! not by much though.
you all have seen the way the evo handled around that those bends go on admit it
by the way the reason i bought it was to do track days so all the comfort, economy, price etc.. does not matter to me really. if i had a family i would probably wait for the subaru 5 door.
i have moved from a modded scoob to a standard evo, i am very happy with my choice.

Sounds about right sam, scooby owners often spend thousands upgrading the car for track use, out of box the Evo is much better for track use... As for road use, Golf Diesel. And somewhere inbetween - Impreza. Quite a good comprimise, but quite limited/expensive to tune.

hi steve
i have to agree with him on the brakes. i have warped the discs in 4500miles . however a set of discs and DS2500 plus some mentix racing fluid has solved the problem and on thursday i was doing 20 laps at the time with out fade .
the evo is heavier at the front than the scoob. the subaru has got better balance and engine layout that what gives it the good handling. apart from that the subaru 4wd system has not really changed since the audi quattro !! so the evo brakes will have to work harder. the evo and subaru have got the same design and make brembo brakes. it is just a matter of time before the sti7 owners start warping discs etc... i won;t imagine them admitting it for a while though .

I missed it but by all accounts it was reasonably fair. I don't do many trackdays and my car is even more Extreme but I use it as everyday transport. However, my wife doesn't like it and I think it is a bit of a diehard family car.
I think that Tiff is qualified to comment not because of his driving skills etc. but because he has actually driven both cars. I get really fed up with the number of people who keep saying how much better their Evo or Scooby is when they haven't driven both. As somebody who has, I have also made a choice.
What is interesting is, that at the moment it is almost impossible to get a new Evo, whereas there is a real surplus of both WRX and STi's. I know of a specialist dealer who was offered 25 STi's at the most unbelievable price. He didn't buy them but somebody did so shop around for a bargain.
Finally, a few things you should note about the car used in the prog. It was not a new FQ300. It was in fact a GSR that had been converted. CCC, the official Mitsubishi importer, has converted a few cars so as to get press reviews before the cars hit the showrooms. So, they have a slightly higher spec although most journos wouldn't know the difference

I didn't want or intend to get into the "my car's better than yours! debate. I'm sure we all love the cars we've chosen and i'm also sure they both have good and bad points.
Lets face it, the biggest difference in our cars is us the DRIVERS!
A good driver in either car would woop an average one in the other ... i'm sure they're that close.
Lets just enjoy our cars.
Cheers
Steve.
