uprated fuel pump, get rid of the cats if not already done so, what air filter? green panel? Then start looking at turbo upgrade, front mount intercooler, decent spark plugs these are worth changing, nice and cheap. Just some ideas, its never ending really , enjoy emptying your bank account like i do ha ha!!!
Try and get the remap like steve777 rightly advises after you have got as many upgraded parts as you can afford or else its false economy, just my opinion.

K/n cone filter. Dump valve. Been told the pump is ok to bout 400ish bhp as it's the 2.5 turbo lump.

You ideally need a high flow fuel pump for higher power, such as Walbro. The standard STI fuel pump (assuming you have STI) "might" be ok but it is better to be safe than sorry - inadequate fuel supply means you may risk detonation. Do you have the WRX or STI? As said above, get a decat downpipe, and remove the 2nd cat too, and finally custom remap - that should be all ok to do under £1k, and with the WRX will net around 280bhp on its turbo (I might be wrong on this figure with the WRX) but on the STI hawkeye you will see a nice 350ish bhp figure with those mods. The standard "recirculating" dump valve (bov) is more efficient than the aftermarket "dump to atmosphere" ones, which make the noise.

wrong wrong wrong, basic mods should be the turbo back exhaust, panel filter, walbro depending on ur goals or how old the standard is and ofc a remap ( duncan springs to mind )
why on earth people insist on dumping metered air to atmosphere is beyond me

With Panel filter and good decated exhaust plus remap you will more benefited like from Cone filter and you will see around 270-280bhp..

Methanol is nice, but he will need run everytime on Methanol, because he can't have switchable fuel maps.

But i doubt he will make more than 310bhp with methanol. He will more benefited from fitting bigger turbo VF43,VF34,VF35 and decatted exhaust and remap than Methanol.

the step up to a vf43 etc is consdierable more than £1k since you need suporting mods in place alrdy, am certain he would enjoy it but meth on a tdo4 will see a nice cool running engine and extra bhp, it is a bit of a pain should you do alot of miles but if like me you dont, its not an issue, just carry a 10 ltr jerrycan full in boot should you need to refill a full tank on your journey, and say he got an extra 30 bhp ( 280-310 not sure how acuurcate that is ) its a small price to add on

Def a remap. Will really set it free on what has been done so far. The std map is pretty lame and is a wonder they sold many of the cars. There is so much potential untapped.

The td04 will max at about 280bhp but torque can be up to 340 lb/ft and that is a huge improvement over std.

Remap : £350
Fuel pump £75

If you want over 300bhp then something like a VF35 gives great grunt with not much increase in lag or for around 340-350bhp a VF43 or VF48. All of these can be got for around £250-£350. Add an sti tmic for about £100 and it will still come in below the £1000 budget.

They do go very well once mapped.

Did one for subaru4you yesterday 288bhp 350lb will post graph later.
Also ecutek racerom is nice touch with two maps, launch control, throttle blip and flat throttle shift etc.

Standard fuel pump is perfectly fine, especially when still on standard turbo.

Haha. I’m all brembo’d up now thank god! Even my uprated wrx brakes were just not good enough!

By the way, why do you think he was getting more air past the MAF than I was? Considering changing my Do-Luck panel filter to a cosworth one. Heard mixed reviews about the Do-Luck. Also, does that point to possible MAF problems for me or am I just being critical?

His turbo was holding slightly more boost at the top than yours - nothing more than that. Will be interesting to see it on the dyno shortly (will be sorting a day out to dyno / tweak a few cars up that way) to compare what that air translates to power wise.

Cool, thanks mate. Makes sense actually. My vf48 is 20k miles, his was new and mine has slight crack in exhaust housing.
