I also do let it settle down before turning off and if I know when im going to stop I drive off boost for a mile or so, I just like turbo timers as I had one on my Cossie last year.

as said not worthwhile also the apexi thats on indigos site is rather steep at 80 odd squids considering they are about 30 elsewhere and sometimes cheaper if you shop around flea bay etc

I though about a turbo timer, however i got told that the standard alarm system wont allow you to lock the car with the engine running?

Read posts 4, 8 and 9 carefully. Why do you think you need a turbo timer?
Are you a boy racer running boost right up to your stopping point?
Drive sensibly for the last 2 minutes of any journey and you do not need a turbo timer. The only application I can think of for a turbo timer is when you come in to the pits on a track day and don't hang around long enough to switch the engine off after 2 minutes.
That said obviously some suppliers like to sell them for the margin.

You don't need one, your turbo is water cooled and continues to cool after switch off.

OK this may or may not be applicable to the OP but I used one alot as I do alot of sprinting and trackdays and I would leave my car on the turbo timer after a session so the car could cool down without me leaving the keys in.

The drive to and into the pits is usually at slow pace and certainly off boost. By the time you undo your harness/seatbelt, get out the car, remove your helmet, open your overall and take off your gloves (assuming you have all the poser gear) several minutes may have elapsed so chances are a turbo timer is a gadget that you do not need.

Turbo time weighs about the same as a packet of tabs. Every little helps though.

Whilst I have one fitted, bought when I knew no better , I would say save your money and spend it better elsewhere.

What about warm up time on the car guys ?? is it a case off letting it idle for a few minutes before setting off or just make sure its a normal operating temp before giving the car any serious power ??

going to show my ignorance here guys !! but as a new scooby owner as off today can I just ask when the turbo kicks in - 2005 wrx as you say drive it off boost say for the last few miles before stopping / was is driving it off boost ??

as I say new to turbocharged cars and just a bit confused regards the turbo and obviously want to preserve the life off it if anyone could offer any advice ??

You should get into the car and drive off immediately and the engine warms up as you go.
Keep rens low ish as the car warms up. I start at 2.5 k rpm then 3.0k, 3.5k and at that point I will have done atleast ten miles. On a cold slushy winter morning oil temperature has not reached 80C after a journey of 20 miles, boggest part of which is 70 mph dual carriageway with some 50 mph.

You turbo is spinning all the time but on your car it may have .5 bar at 2400 rpm and 1 bar at 2700 rpm. If you put your foot flat on the floor in 3rd or 4th you will feel when the turbo comes on strongly.
No need to run your car to the red line. Probably no gain from 6k rpm.
