When I renewed my insurance a couple of months ago I went for the lowest price through a comparison site. When I called the company to do the deal, they said that I would have to have a working tracker on the car, or I'd have no cover for theft which kind of made the policy from my point of view pretty pointless.
I then called Direct Line and got a price which was only a few quid more than the best quote off the comparison site, so took them up on their offer. No stipulation in respect of a tracker and found the attitude over the phone friendly and helpful.

Think a lot depends on postcode and value of vehicle my insurance doesn't require one and can't save a worthwhile amount by having one fitted so couldn't see the point.

Would you really want your car back if it had been stolen? If your answer is yes, then go for a Tracker. If you'd rather not, go without and hope it doesn't get recovered in the event of it being stolen.

Insurance/Tarckers
I just recently renewed my insurance and they weren't too bothered about the tracker, I have one but it was uneconomical to activate it, It's in the Insurance companies intrest to activate it if it got stolen, Try A-Plan insurance or Sky, I found them most competitive.
