Any method to see if cambelt is not original?
Are the originals a one off? Or are they exactly the same if bought from Subaru?
My car has no history ("lost"), I did believe the owner as they seemed well off/owned from new, owner said it was changed by a specialist in Featherstone but I haven't been able to track it down.
I wondered if you could tell, i.e an aftermarket one. Otherwise I am looking at doing it as car is at 53k miles and on a 53 plate. I will change it soon with a kit anyway but if it seems replaced it could wait a bit as I've just been hit with MOT, insurance and tax all at once because car was bought cheap straight from storage!
At this mileage am I looking at full kit and water pump?

the belt iff changed recently may look new. if unsure with no history i would have a complete service and cambelt. don,t take the guy,s word for it with no proof. change brake fluid, gear and diff oil too.
what does the engine oil look like on the dipstick colour wise? iff it looks fresh (light gold colour)then he may well of been telling you the truth.
good luck with it, j

Oil looked OK on inspection before buying it. Light gold when thin but looks lots darker with any depth.
It was literally one lady owner from new. I was just hopefully trying to stagger a few jobs leading to complete service over say 3 months. I have insurance now and I am waiting for cover note for Tax. Would have just been nice to have a drive but knowing my luck it give on my first proper go!
Would people do water pump at tensioner or is that more for the 80k one?

If the owner was well off, you can bet your last dollar that money would NOT have been spent if not required!!

Yeah I think I will make a £500 order at Japimport place and just change everything! Better safe than sorry! I take it this is what I need for a 53 plate STI (blobeye)? Amongst all the oils and that!

Yes she said Featherstone, I assume West Yorks, she lived in Goole. I thought I maybe able to track it down as documented/done but maybe I am best just doing the job lot and then I know what has been done! Just going to have to flex the plastic and play safe!
I have read a lot of horror stories about engine failure after changing oil, filling the filter first and removing a sensor. Does this apply to the STI as well or just the WRX?

I'm sure on most things, pretty sure on that really but there seems to be a lot of cambelt kits. Prices look good at this place, no mad rush on the delivery really!
