Default Insulation under bonnet type stuff thingy

Anyway you know what I mean the insulation type stuff attached underneath the bonnet, is it really necessary and does it really do much? The reason I ask is I've seen a few scoobs with them removed and mine is well tatty and would look a lot better without it IMO!

Think its there just to reduced noise mate, plus transfer of heat

Didn't have it on my Spec C ... it weighs a lot apparently.

Shaun added it back to his Spec C although we all know he is

TX.

It's for heat purposes I believe, can't see it would be for noise as there are three vents for the noise to escape from anyway.
Mines all gone chap, had no issues.

Long gone from mine, although, apart from noise, the other effect removing it has on mine is that you get a lot of condensation on the underside of the bonnet when a warm engine cools on a cold night so there are loads of drips there in the morning which drop onto the engine when driving and steam merrily.

Most companys fit them to reduce engine noise, even with vents i'm sure it makes small diffrence

Right then it's off and in the skip on my drive, which shouldve been gone today, must've known I'd be needing it!

Anyone used this stuff?

I reckon if you got rid of the nasty stinking stuff and wanted to bling up the engine bay a touch this would work? Looks smart?

No good; too much heat in the engine bay.

As in because its reflective or what? Surely it just does the same thing but looks prettier?

Please enlighten me!

If not this can you buy the material? I want to muffle engine sound but current bonnet lining is tatty.

Have a look in 'cars breaking for spares' section. May find a good condition original Subaru one there.
