96WRX v2 jumping out of second gear
hey guys my car seems to jump out of second gear not on acceleration but on decel? It doesnt happen in any of the other gears but sumtimes its not all that keen on going into first, i just slip it into second then into first and it slots in fine then. Is this gear linkage related or am i looking and selector shafts inside the box? cars done 110 kilom
cheers guys

Sounds like the syncro/selector has gone, have you checked the gearbox oil level? would suggest talking to a gearbox speciallist who deals with subaru's and put about 600 quid on one side for the rebuild.

might be clutching at straws here but i had mine jumping back a little while ago, it was actually the plastic 'egg cup' shaped plastic housing situated at the bottom of the gearstick (you'd have to remove your rubber gaitor to see though), mine had a nasty split in it and would pop out when changing gear hard but also had a lot of play in it when coming off the gas. just my experience, might be worth a look!

Best way to tell is to hold the gearstick in second keeping constant pressure on the gearstick,
If it stays in gear then it is a linkage fault,
If it violently jumps out against the pressure of your hand and crunches then the synchros are FOOKED
