Default Found a new love for my wheels

Morning all

i bought a set of alloys just under a year back, and have never really been totally happy with them. When I bought them I just wanted the same size as standard - very soon regretted this.

The main thing was, they just looked sucked into the car. I really like the look where the wheels are flush with the body work.

As I haven't got £1,000 plus for some new wheels I thought spacers. And to be honest I couldn't be happier. A massive thanks to Mark at Lateral for sorting them out so quickly and big thanks to Chris at CDF Racing. The quality of the product was amazing, great to see quality British engineering.

Before:

And after:

Too embarrassed to shoot the hole car - way too dirty and I'm so happy I invested in a set of BC coil-overs as I can now lower the front a little more

cheers
Gez

Are these hub centric? That's pretty wide as spacers go, has it had an effect on handling?

It is wide, does the spacers put any extra load on the wheel bearings ?

in terms of handling - nothing different. The advice I got was, it might feel a little heavier when parking etc, but nothing. Feels perfect.

If you're wheel bearings are on the way out, the spacers may speed it up. But nine times out of ten wont make any difference.

If it isn't hubcentric then it puts extra load on the bolts which is not good. It will inevitably put extra load on the bearings but they will be able to cope with that. The only concern I would have is of altering the offset too greatly to the detriment of handling and steering feel.

Hub centric spacers are spacers which have a lip on them to bear the load of the car. Flat or non hubcentric ones don't have this lip so effectively all the load is on the bolts! Wider spacers all tend to be hubcentric anyway.

They look great!
But what about the clearance on wings with the suspension travel? have you noticed any rubbing?

I'd recommend them mate, if you're after that style. More worried about the huge speed bump at my local tesco garage - should start using the local shell garage anyway

Question

Do you need to let your insurance company know if you fit them?

I was always under the impression that due to the change in offset - it put more strain on the wheel bearings, is that just a myth???

Very nice mate ! I love the look of those. Were they easy to fit ? Did you need any special tools ?

its not a myth about extra strain on the bearings but the chances of them going are so small, all it does is speed them up if they're on there way out.

They're dead simple to fit, if I can you probably can. All you need is a jack (good hydrolic will save u loads of time), copper slip, torque wrench and your normal breaker bar with sockets.

All you do is take your wheel off (great chance to give the wheel a really good clean in and out) wipe any dirt etc off the hub and place the spacer onto hub and do up the nuts provided, I added a little copper slip to the threads before tightening.

Then mount your wheel as normal - easy peasy

one little tip if you're thinking of getting some spacers:

I used a large (1.5m) spirit level, line it up vertically against the car wing/body and then measure into the wheel. You'll then know what size you need if you're after this effect.

cheers

no worries mate, just don't get cheap nasty spacers. I don't know if they'll have other side effects. go quality and you'll be happy.

if you do it, take some pics before and after and show us. never know, this could become the spacer thread

I don't know if any of you guys are interest, I will be selling these spacers in a few days time. I've just had a bit of a result and I'm gonna treat myself to some new rota wheels.

PM me if you're interested before I put them in the sale section.

Cheers
