Talking Opinions on Potential Buy

Ok, so I'm looking to upgrade from my Sport Special to something a little bit more entertaining. I've been looking at this;

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2732780.htm

Does anyone know the history or is the owner on here?

Now should I be worried by the fact that it's had a modified intake and exhaust and no re-map since you hear all the horror stories about the 2.5 lump?

I wouldn't be happy if it's got a straight through system and filter with no remap and guessed power figures

2nd that, you will only want more power st a later date and.the sti.is a better base car to begin with. Hold out for a little longer and buy a sti

For that price you can buy a simliar hawk sti ! its main selling point seems to be because its white? Also mentioned is full decat with no map spoken about. Hawks tend to overboost and it wont be kind to the engine.
The sti is a better car all round and throw into the mix the 6 speed, its a no brainer

Im sure you can get a hawkeye sti for less than that advertised price with room for haggling.

I'm just worried about the price of insurance of the STi, it seems to be a lot higher. I'm sure you're right, I'll want it eventually.

I really want to avoid the silver and blue hawks because they seem too common to me.

3 owners from new sounds way to much for a 2007 your going to be the 4th owner, the insurance on the sti wont make much of a diffrence from the wrx, you can allways vynl wrap it.

Insurance on that White thing with all the mods (engine, wheels, skirting, etc) will probably be higher than a standard STi.

ignoring the STI or WRX argument. I wouldn't buy this mate.

No remap is a bad thing and I bet you would notice it when driving. Also 310bhp is way off IMHO - 290+ needs a turbo upgrade.

Not to mention the headlights are illegal and will cost you £400-£600 to fix unless you can scrub all that tint off.

I could be wrong on this - white uk spec, very rare - worth checking

That's a real nice WRX hawkeye, but definately too dear !!

There are plenty of good deals out there at the moment, hawkeyes can be had for as little as £5500 for a WRX

You don't have to go for an STi, a remapped WRX with a decent exhaust will get you close to 300 bhp, and if you can find an SL you get full leather and a sunroof.

Food for thought

PS Sti owners will always tell you to get an STi, iphone owners will always tell you to buy an iphone.

i 1st had the hawk wrx, was a nice car but 8 mnth later i regreted not paying the extra for the sti.
So thats excatly what i did, in went the wrx and came out with nice shiny hawk sti, dont regret it for 1 min even though it ended up costing me alot more doing it this way. Insurance is hardly an issue ( £100 for 1yr for me ) , peanuts for the value your getting

Ok thanks guys, the hunt continues!

I do kind of have my heart set on a white/black hawk but if the right deal comes around. I'm happy to wait after all.
