Default Fitting a FMIC - Bugeye STI

Ok Guys, Im sure this is covered on here somewhere already, but what tools, space, time, and expertise are required please.

Im tempted to hand the job out to a proffesional Subaru mechanic (CAMS Performance) as the car will need mapping afterwards anyway, thus this can be done afterwards by Andrew Carr. HOWEVER I rarely get my hands dirty these days and would quite like to do the job myself.

I guess its a bumper off job, anything else?

Rob

Take a look at Swiss's thread about fitting one to my 555, I know it's a classic but it isn't that much different It'll be bumper, headlights and maybe wing off but it's possible in day or 2

Hi Rob,

As long as you have an angle grinder to cut up your bumper bar you'll be be fine with a socket set/a very sharp stanly knife, i used the hook type carpart blades when i cut my bumper & a jr hacksaw just incase, but don't forget you'll need a constant feed of boiling water and coffee to keep you going.

Also depends what FMIC you're going for some (more expensive ones) come with replacement bumper bars so are easier to fit.

Dont think a remap is that important if you are lowering the ACT's, i live in scotland and dont have to re-map my car every winter...

Ok, It appears you are getting lucky imho, you wont be getting the best from the FMIC without mapping, plus as Im pushing 400, and I intend on going a little further, so I will benefit from a remap....

Lucky about what sorry? the weather? The car like all efi syatems has an inlet air temp sensor and so compensates for lower ACT's, so if its a frosty day or a scorching hot day after sitting in traffic the car will compensate for the difference. 400 bhp on a TMIC at that power level then a remap will be nesesary as flow charecteristics are now an issue with the standard item, not just ACT's.

I fitted mine in half a day on a Friday, then spent all weekend carefully trimming the bumper to fit...

Mine was easier as it's so massive it completely replaces the bumper bar
