This is one of thoses how long is a piece of string questions mate, some have run 400 through old classic boxes and been fine and others have killed them at 300.

I'm of the assumption that the power tolerance of the classic STi boxes isn't much greater than that of the UK classic boxes. Somewhere around 330-350bhp/lb ft I think is the limit but don't quote me on that. PM someone like Harvey or Tony Burns on here for a definitive answer.

Also depends on what the car is used for much over 300 for all but the smoothest early gear changing driver will end a box before you reach 100k from 77k

the later boxes are 754 and supposed to be stronger, but noticed my old wagon was for sale and the guy that bought it had the box rebuilt,it was only running 315/320.

Should be ok with considerate driving at sub 350, but it really is a matter of time at any more than that. I'm running 390 ish through mine and it's just about given up, got a lovely low mile P1 box ready to go in.
If yours isn't broken then don't worry about it, if/when it breaks then worry about it. If your running pretty standard power you should be fine, if it goes then replace it with a later type r box. 754 code.

Your other thread pretty much summed all your concerns up to be honest, stop worrying about something that isn't yet a problem and enjoy your car. If it goes **** up it's not the end of the world.

370 ish (at the minute, lol),
Stick with what you got but just keep in the back of your mind that you may need to find £500 if it all goes wrong.
What power you aiming for after build ??

well, fresh from the build about 310,but in the future i would love to see 350+ depending on cost of what else i would need to buy.

Nah was hanging back for an overtake and booted in third, should have changed up to 4th and then 3rd for the overtake. Live and learn but would have died for sure if I'd done Brands in it a week later, so I was quiet fortunate to be close to home and not stranded at a race track

If it bothers the op that much I'd have an STi 6 speed ready for when his does go. My car was a my99 modified to around 300/300 and returned to standard before my ownership. Box went at 135k.

Well my V3 STI done around 40 laps of the ring and used daily and done alot of 130 to 150 highspeed driving when on the way to the ring and other private land and had a whine for the last 18months before i decided to take it out and was the front diff bearing that was worn, i fitted a later ty54 box than lasted 4 weeks and stripped the teeth off 3rd gear when accelerating from traffic lights

i wonder what box i have now bought ( no not 2k for a 6 speed but that wont be long im sure)

probably more of a "how the driver uses it"?
use it hard... it breaks, treat it with care and will last upto around 350?

not really, i would say there is 3 classes of driving,

DRIVING GENTLE: but seems pointless having a big power car when your afraid to have fun with it,

DRIVING HARD: which is fine, its what you up the power for and the last is there for and but still remembering

FINALLY ABUSE: ragging the **** out of the car and not caring about if it fails, just driving like like you stole it and generally people who do this also neglect cars on maintanace too which also leads to premature failure

if i could afford the six speed with my rebuild then i would be going for 400-450!
