Dads on his way to work this morning, and his mobile rings, answers and its the local Subaru garagre...
'Oh hello Steve, We have had a press release from subaru today, and i was just wondering if you had the prodrive brake upgrade on your car?'

So dad says yes, and asks if there's a problem..

'No not a problem, we just wanted to inform you that your space saver spare wheel wont fit over your brakes, and if you get a puncture, you will have to take the wheel off the back of the car, put it on the front and put the space saver on the back...'

EH???
How long has there been a brake upgrade for a scooby?? They REALLY only just sussed it out!?

Laura and Steve!

i cant spoll!!!

i thought it was a bit obvious wasn't it considering you need at least 16" rims to house the calipers Ah well...

Driving down the M6/M1 with a space saver on was enough for me to get an 18" spare! Now I have 2 reasons to justify buying it...

With the Evo 6, this happens as standard.
The standard Evo space saver won't fit over the standard Evo6 front Brembo's.

Therefore it's far easier to carry a can of tyreweld than have to remove 2 wheels in the p****ng down rain just to replace a front puncture.

You also save weight too by removing the spare and so can go faster

You normally throw away your tyre shortly after tire weld

Never could understand a space saver on a 4WD since it isn't the same diameter.

Funny that most have moulded on the side of them "not to be put on a driven wheel". Which also means in a front wheel drive a front puncture means replacing a front wheel with a rear anyway.

Andy AFAIK It's the same situation with the Scoob.

My supplying dealer wrote to tell me that the spacesaver wouldn't fit on the front two months ago. Thought it was pretty obvious myself

They also went on to explain it would be necessary to switch a punctured front for a rear in order to use the spacesaver.....ditto.

I carry a full size spare, but with directional tyres it's a matter of luck if you picked the side that gets the puncture

Full marks to Robbies for their customer service though.

Steve, Tyreweld is an branded aerosol compond that provides a get you home fix. Got that as well, proper little boy scout

Still have to inflate the tyre though so you need to have a footpump or on that works off a car battery.
Available at any number of motorist shops for a few quid.

If they can't be used on a driven wheel, there not much point puttin one in the boot of a Scoob or Evo!

If you do use tyre weld try not to let it sit in the tyre. Drive to the closest tyre repairer and get the tyre taken off and washed thoroughly. If you leave it to sit some tyres delaminate (even overnight on some Bridgestones I had).

Funny this should be brought up, had a puntcure yesterday and I couldn't even use the space saver, when I got a slow puncture, can't put it on the front due to brake size, put it on the back and the exhauset drags along the ground...(slaps self for lowering the car too far)...Also has anyone ever tried driving with three 17" wheels and a 15" one ?? Bet it's a bitch !

"Also has anyone ever tried driving with three 17" wheels and a 15" one?"

It isn't to do with wheel size. It is to do with tire width vs. profile + wheel size. They often end up in the same area.

How many people recalibrate their speedo when they change their wheels/tyres?

WARNING....If you use tyreweld on a repairable puncture your local KRAPFIT wont fix it
Coz when they take the tyre off its too messy inside, and they cant be bothered to clean it all off
So be warned!

Apparently this whole wheel swapping thing is the same on a standard Civic Type R.

Surely the Civic Type R is because the front wheels are driven?

Subaru seem to ignore this fact but most manufacturers issue the warning. Even mould it on the whhel.

I don't think its actually a press release...

...I got a letter from the dealer about this a couple of weeks ago. Seemed to be written in a way that assumed I had got Alcons - like they had some sort of mailing list of Alcon owners. Shame I've got AP 4 pots .. still, I expect the space saver won't fit over them either
