How to improve stone chip repairs ????

Anyone tried this product?
Apparently it allows you to smooth off the blob you often get when you use a touch-up paint stick!

Might be of interest....
PS. I have no connection to the above, I just learned about it today on another forum....

waste of time m8 u could do the same thing with a small amount of cellulose thinners on a cloth witch wont damage modern 2 pac car paints.I might be biased as i am one, but just get your local ChipsAway operator to sort it for you. Will cost you a bit more but will be worth it as my MY2000 testifies.No.in yellow pages theres about 300 of us nationwide.

Chips,
Whats the minimum limit (in size) that you can repair ? I am talking about a small chip, 2-3mm dia. Is it possible for Chipsaway to make it "disapppear" and if so how much are we talking do you reckon ?

Hi Yorkie,
Sorry for the delay in replying Mate - must get the e-mail notification going again..... £18,250? They've gone up!
You're right - Bob's doing what we all should be - driving the thing 'till the tank's dry...... Then doing the same again.

Hi Guys
Yup, been driving...organised a little track day yesterday, didn't you see the thread?
And Harry, be careful when using slang words for take-away foods...
the last time I used a slang word for an oriental take-away it blew up into a racist debate
Going back to paint chips...my bonnet is FULL of chips, so much so that I don't think there is square foot that is chip free
Luckily I can't see them from the drivers seat

Sorry Yorkie, been working away all weekend.
In answer to your question, stone chips are touched up using small artist airbrushes with a paint system manufactured by ChipsAway in the US.The repairs on a bonnet can be made 90/95% better for stone chips of the size you were talking about(2-3mm).However, 95% of a ChipsAway operators business is repairing paint damage to bumpers(scuffs, scrapes, cracks ect),scratches to panels, wing mirrors ,alloy wheels and interior trim damage as these things can all be repaired to 100% original condition by a decent operator.
For more info look at WWW.CHIPSAWAY.CO.UK.
As i said previously we are fully mobile and have 300 operators in the U.K. Sorry if this sounds like an advert.

The Halfords link up is just thier service department advertising the ChipsAway service to thier customers and then booking the local ChipsAway operator to come in and carry out the work on the Halfords premises. So should be the same as dealing with the local ChipsAway operator direct, only may be slightly more expensive as Halfords take a percentage of the retail price. It is the same thing the RAC does through thier website if you take a look.
hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Chips. It sounds like you use the method I do then except with special paint. I water "Subaru touch up stick" paint down with a little cellulose thinners and carefully "flow" the paint into the chip using a 00 artists brush. After a couple of "operations" it looks ok, but not invisible perfect.

There should be at least a couple of operators in Derby.
We know a ChipsAway guy in Derby called Andy.He deals with a lot of the top end stuff in that area(Astons,Jags ect.)so should be able to help. His mobile is 07850 154574.

Not wanting to put a downer on certain Chip repairers but please be aware that that alot of them (including ones recently mentioned) are a franchise setup so do check that the bloke about to tackle your car wasnt a coal miner, office bod, etc etc who was made redundant last week and has ploughed all his cash into a franchise and has over night suddenly become a paint expert!!!!
Be also aware that the chips are only coloured and that they dont vanish...I think they say they will be invisible from a meter away.
This is in no way aimed at any individual but just a general warning.
