New Owner
Just bought my first ever scooby:
Humble beginnings perhaps but is exactly what I'm after as a fun, fast, daily driver. I'm lucky enough to have a 911 turbo for the weekends and the scooby should be much better than my old daily car (an Integra Type R) for the crappy, potholed roads around here. I'm going to TRY not to modify it with a Prodrive pack but don't know how long I will hold out. Then there's a set of 18s... lowering... spoiler... Perhaps this was a bad idea.
Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you fine blokes (and girls?)

Looks good mate hope you enjoy here as standard as it won't be long before you melt your credit card on mods ha ha. Well done on te porka turbo too must say a touch green about that ha ha ha

Can I have one lazy post as a new member's treat? If I did have a simple remap with no supporting mods at all, what sort of price and bhp would I be looking at on a 2005 WRX? Just a little boost to 240ish would be enough (for now)

What you'll need to do is a green panel filter 3'' cat back exhaust and a remap as its pointless paying the price of a remap and not changing the exhaust, then it will be the handling rear drop links and arb and an antilift kit and lazer alignment will make it a hell of a car then when your discs and pads r fooked look at the godspeed or black diamond discs and pads of your choice.
you should see around 260 bhp and a really well ballanced chassis. which makes for a cracking daily driver.
there are those that would say you should have bought an sti but these mods on a wrx make a really good real world ie heavy traffic pot holed roads daily driver that is hard to beat..

Another thing: I'm used to 6 speed boxes and noticed that this car has reverse where 6th would be. How easy/hard is it to accidentally shift into reverse at about 70 mph?

You will modify, it's not a matter of IF but WHEN!
I humbly suggest a full exhaust system with a sports cat, decat up-pipe, panel air filter and remap from Rich at FB tuning. As for springs, I recommend the following 2 types (which are the same), Prodrive or Eibach.
You will then find you need better stopping power. I just had uprated pads on my past WRX's which I was happy with. You could do that and go for a grooved disc also!
I'm on my 7th Impreza now!

Can someone explain why I am safe with the 6th gear/reverse position thing. I'm certain I will try to put in it '6th' at least a couple of times. Am I really safe?

Hope you enjoy the wrx
just changed mine fortnight ago had it 3 yrs daily driver and very reliable, only mods panel filter and backbox which on their own up the BHP a bit without the cost of remap.
was excellent car and as you say has enough grip and poke in it to have fun.

Welcome mate 
It's amazing how quickly your brain will train and you'll not worry about the g'box issue.
Keen to know who it compares the the 911? Obviously different cars totally but always nice to hear an honest comparison.

911 has slightly harder, less forgiving suspension but similar 4x4 grip - just more of it. Both seem set up to understeer very slightly if you really push on. Scooby has easier, smoother gear change. Both have under-servoed brakes which lack the initial bite but have plenty of stopping power when you need them (911 ridiculously strong fortunately). No comparison with performance though if I'm honest - 530bhp/lb-ft is an entirely different world...

Silly question: I take it the quiet whirring noise I can hear when I trail the throttle at 1000-2000 rpm in low gears is probably the differential doing its 4x4 thing. Never owned a scooby/evo type car before.
