Feel for you mate, Sometimes wonder why I bought another one Personally if your not looking for more power I would just get it rebuilt with maybe uprated bearings for piece of mind, There is no cheap way of doing it so just as well get it done properly, 2nd hand engines in my opinion are not worth thinking about unless off someone known to be trustowrthy that has not long been rebuilt, Good luck with whatever you decide though

sorry to hear this, i'd be heartbroken if mine went.. do you know what happened? ran out of oil? no pressure? you could always wait for a decent bottom end to turn up in the classifieds. and do it a bit cheaper..

If you are keeping it at only 300 BHP then a used short block off a fellow scooby netter would be a very pragmatic option

it is indeed a horrible soundind engine now,im not sure what to do,i either rebuild mine or get a 2nd hand sti8 block and mate them to my heads.
i want the best option for reliablility and also the cheapest option but bearing in mind i dont want to take any risks....ie buying a block off of ebay etc.
with the labour costs involved in the job it would be crazy to cut corners as if it happened again it would feel like its the end of the world!
but after buying the car, then putting a new clutch, flywheel, rad, apexi ecu etc,my funds are now basically maxxed out,and it feels like im in a real situation now,its a matter of saving a bit of cash and deciding what is the best route to take..

Feel for you mate, remember you had a few issues straight after buying it from a member on here, clutch and that but now to have the bottom end let go you must be gutted. Was looking at it myself no offence but I'm glad I didn't buy it now. Goes to show even buying off here does not give you peace of mind with subaru ownership.

Anyhow, don't cheap out so to speak. If you want peace of mind, reliability and the knowledge that you won't be back in this situation in 6 to 12 months time with fitting a secondhand used block. If I were you I would take it in to a reputable tuner such ad API or enginetuner and have them rebuild yours. They will advise you on what is best to do, you don't have to end up with.a 2.35 all singing or.dancing 500+ build. I am sure they will be able to offer a forged build within your budget.

Time to make some calls on Monday

Good luck

Rather expensive I would have thought.

Send Rob84 a PM, he works at Stan Palmer's so could get you a price.

If you are looking for a "fixed price" rebuild I'm sure David at API has one on his menu.

That's my point,

Also why do you "NEED" a six speed?

Think you want a six speed where as you need a new engine, also why do you need a six speed when you only intend to run low to mid 300's there is no need for a 6 speed box. That's a complete waste of money as the 5 speed will be fine at that level

Don't bother with a 2nd hand engine, next to no warranty and only the sellers word for it.

Just get David @ API to build you a forged unit, worry free from then on.

I've been there, he was the only tuner to put something in writing as to what I was getting. He explained all optioned and saved me over a £1K from the other tuners that were charging for un-needed items.
