I have a private reg that's been on retention for about 9 months now and I want to put it on my car but I've lost the retention certificate, how do I go about sorting it anyone know, I've tried ringing dvla but just get automated service!!

I think there is a form at the post office, if not ask in there im sure they will help you. I lost mine a few years back, im sure I just rang dvla at the time though.
