Default Finally Finished

I finally got my Brembos finished today. Going to leave them for a few days to harden a bit more. To be honest they weren't that easy but I think it's worth it if you have the time and patience.

I asked a few people and they all said that normal paint from a spray can would suffice given the calipers shouldn't get that hot. I used U-Pol primer, a custom mixed gold spray (Honda Inca Pearl Y61P) and Lacquer all of which I got at Halfrauds

Time will tell if they hold up.

It did cause my some thinking but a few people here have used normal paint and its worked out OK. I believe Ian Godney uses standard two-pack paint which to my knowledge is not VHT?

They are liquid cooled effectively and I can't remember them ever getting that hot when I have touched them changing a wheel for instance after a drive. They certainly held up to the heat of my oven.

Well that was a complete waste of a lot of paint and time

I've been supplied the wrong calipers so they don't fit. The local Subaru Specialist didn't notice until they came to fit them after I'd painted them. Seems there's been a **** up between the local specialist and the company who supplied them. They'd be fine if I owned an Evo

The Subaru specialist who's doing the work on my car, and supplied them is sorting it out. God knows how they'll do it as refurbished Brembos don't appear all that often. Granted you can buy 2nd hand pairs but most of the time they need a tidy up. When you add the refurbishment cost to the purchase price it adds up.

Thanks

As things stand my original pair were knackered and sent to Ian Godney for refurbishment. Sadly they were beyond repair. The Subaru specialist tracked down a remanufactured pair from a supplier they use. I picked them up and painted them. When I handed them back so they could finish the work the issue came to light. So far no money has changed hands, although a price for the Brembos was agreed.

I'll wait and see what happens. I can't be bothered to get annoyed about it, as it appears to be a genuine **** up. Hopefully all will come good in the end.

Gold Brembo on EVO will look strange i would say,but which Subaru Specialist ordered EVO Brembo calipers, this specialist is ... or just don't know EVO have different offset 5x114 and you should have 5x100
Gutted matey, really pain to do all work and after all you are making EVO calipers..

About the second hand Brmbo,i would recommend have look for used K-Sport or AP,because used Brembo from STi still people selling for crazy money..

I'll keep my eyes open for some AP's or K-Sports

I won't be painting any more of them. I told the lad that on the phone today. I simply don't have the time in my evenings at the minute to prep and paint another pair.

They did look slightly different, but I thought it was maybe some changes made from year to year. It never crossed my mind I'd been given the wrong ones..........

That's the bigger problem. The paint was "only" £47.00 but the time is another matter. I spent probably 8 hours working on them which included prepping, painting and tidying up. If you cost that at even £30.00 + VAT an hour which is a figure that most independent garages start their labour at you are looking at a total of £288!!!

Obviously people who do this day in, day out have reached economies of scale, have proper facilities, and as such charge much less. Ian Godney charges £130.00 a pair to strip, clean and paint for example.

As much as I want to get annoyed about it I just can't. It was a genuine mistake on the part of the Scooby specialist.
