Default ECU reset after MAF replaced?

Would i need to reset my ECU after replacing say a MAF or O2/lambda sensor?

How would you reset your ECU without a fault code/software readed?

Car is 2005 STi UK.

Hi, Im no expert by any stretch of the imagination but would disconnecting then reconnecting your battery not reset the ECU? (remember to have your stereo codes ready if applicable)

Yes for resetting ECU you will need OBD II cable with software like RomRaider,EvoScan etc.,and after this you can reset ECU easy.Or if you have PSI3 monitor with this you can reset ECU,some normal OBD reader can reset ECU easy

The DENSO ECU you have is very clever and will simply get on with the job after you have changed the MAF or Lambda sensor

Jump in the car and drive as usual LOL

As usual, Shaun is exactly right, the ECU is constantly learning, thus will do the corrections itself.

However a OBD2 Cable and 'Learning View' is easy to use.
This will work http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAG-COM-USB-KK...item19c0e5757d

Rob

PS Jura, the MD is sold

Exclamation

MAF replacement should always be followed by an ECU reset.

From Andy Forrest's web page, look under the Ignition timing section of how the ECU works..."it is not worth resetting later models......."

Hey Shaun, I got myself another Project in the Summer of last year, but up until now nothing has really happened bar getting the car running. I bought a Standard (and I mean completly standard) Uk 2002 STI with mysterious engine damage . Anyway after a load of messing about it was agreed that an engine transplant was the answer. Im now moving towards tracking the car this year, but as a personal achievment im going to try and do it all on a serious budget instead of opening my wallet to be raped!! More inore info is available here:

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...-a-budget.html
https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...group-buy.html

I intend on starting a thread with my actual overal costs with power claims, aswel as handling claims for the coilovers

How about you mate?

Hi Rob

Looks like you have a lot on your hands

My sad Bug hasn't had much done to it over the last few years apart from the odd bit of work to get it through the MOT. An APS intercooler pipe split a long time ago so I can't run on boost otherwise the air escapes past my repair and I think the last time I cleaned it was August 2010 to try and fool the MOT tester LOL

3 kids and running a 400 BHP car do not mix

On a brighter note I drove a 2.5 car and wow what a nice drive I come from 1.6 MR2 territory and am used to high revving cammy type cars but the 2.5 did drive well

I'm collecting bits for a 2.5 conversion but I'm a bit stuck trying to get a set of non-AVCS heads. Hopefully something is in the pipeline soon

Cheers

Hey Shaun,

Why you going down the 2.5 route?

I might be able to help you with parts.... I sold some AVCS to a guy a few months ago whom builds engine in his leisure, he certainly knows his stuff.

Anyway when he turned up to collect the heads he bought from me he had around 6 other sets/pairs of heads along with various bottom ends all neatly sat in the back of his van. He builds them up in his spare time, but the point for me is when I was talking about a good engine build he mentioned a 2.1 ACL forged spec which came in very reasonable. In fact I was so dumb struck that we ended up talking for about an hour or so about it and I soon realised that he was the route to take in the future for a good build...

He use to work for Prodrive and a rally mechanic and is now a coded welded so im guess he is very clued up when it comes to this type of thing.

PM me if you want his number and more details.

Im in the same bought as you, 2 kids but I also have the family bus, So I certainly have the intention of tracking my car this year, ok not in the same league as most, but im sure I can rack up some points in the SSO with my history of driving style . Back in the day I have Hill climbed, Sprinted, and Drag Stripped, but with nothing near 400bhp or AWD... I even recall trading at SantaPod where my Series 1 RS Turbo was on the stand (It was mint) and my dad said that I should have a run, so we (Graphics company stand) stickered up the car with sponsors, unplugged the Vac pipe and ran up with a full tank of fuel in 14.5 sec . Business roared in

Rob
