Default Engines for beginners..........advice!

Gents,

I am looking to expand my limited mechanical knowledge and have been searching for literature/software explaining basic engine maintenance, design and dynamics on modern turbocharged petrol engines, in effect, how it works and how to improve it

I have been struggling to find anything good that explains in Layman's Terms (as I am Simple Jack), these principles and was curious if anyone had any recommendations on books etc that could answer my questions without making me even more confused!

Any advice or recommendation would be appreciated

Camo

Try reading some Haynes manuals. No joke. Although not relevant to the subaru, you get a basic idea of how things work, and a basic idea of procedures. Also workshop manual cd's...

Cheers

I was thinking more along the lines of one of those 'Idiot Guides' or 'Engines for Dummies' - that kind of thing.

What do you mean by workshop manual cd's?

Its just a CD which has the workshop manual on. Just like a Haynes really but on a disk.
