I've got a CD that renault made many moons ago with onboard and track side recordings of Damon Hills Williams at Spa, the Renault V10 did sounds so nice. Must dig it out.
The GP3 cars at Silverstone this year sounded awful and they have 4 pot turbos like the F1 cars will in a few years. It will kill of a huge part of what F1 is all about. Sad times

They may not change still.....Ferrari have already said they WILL NOT build a 4 cylinde engine of any sort.....lol...good for them, and bare in mind the yanks race a million cars with V8's......things will be ok, the F1 teams really run the sport as long as they can stick together....
this is true speed, but i have always been more impressed with how they stop, and corner....we all know thye are fast...

the cars are so limited nowadays though, its ridiculous. a mate and i were saying the other day, it would be great if they developed a car that was just ultimate, with no limits in BHP, engine size, downforce, rev limit, etc. just to see what they could actually do! I think there would be a whole lot more variation than the "almost similar" top cars from F1 now...

If your talking racing those cars they would ultimatley all look very similar, the design process demands it....one wind tunnel will offer the same results as the next.....they are limited really by safety, most of everything done is around driver safety including the death of the "too powerful" V10, V8's were intodruced to lower speeds....it worked to a point

Yeh i do, totolly mental, and no safety at all, and as Martin Brundle said "we had 1200HP and we all still wanted more" was awesome, but i'm in favour of where it all is now for the most part. With KERS back this season overtaking might be more plentiful.....cant wait, FEKIN love F1, not for everyone i understand but i love it!

I once got invited to Silverstone on a jolly, and got to wander the Jordan pit during a test session. Amazing day! I could go anywhere on the circuit, but found the best place was to stand in the middle of the overhead tunnel on the pit straight. You couldn't see anything, but the noise! talk about guilty pleasure..

I think they should make F1 the pinnacle of autosport again, not only in name, but also in the cars itself.
NO restrictions on engine size whatsoever,NO restrictions in wheel size ,bring back fuelstops, for example.
For every pro devise a con.
Make the base car a 700kg v8 for example, and get penalty weight for more cilinders, weight loss for less.
Want to put a turbo on, fine but then the softest compound tire (or 2) are not available to you (or any othe team running forced induction).Just make sure the car is safe, and carry on from there.
Want to put in a Dutchman as driver, fine, but prepare to have extensively modified aero after the first gravel trap.
The way it is now is lacking imho,we had the closest championship desicion in ages last season, but I can't be bothered to watch.Sad really how the FIA/Assholestone and the lot have cocked up the F1 in the name of safety and commercialism.

No restrictions is a nice idea but the people who suggest this obviously don't follow the sport that closely. The field in recent years has bunched up very well leading to very close racing. Compare this to the days of unlimited budgets and no resourse restrictions where usually one team would dominate the season (williams and mclaren in the late 90's and then Ferrari). I can't remember the last time when we had 4 drivers with a shot of the title going into the final round, as we did last year.
You just can't have 'no limits' on resourses or it will become very quickly a 1 or 2 horse race.
But, I do think they are going too far with the 4 pot engine route. I can see why they are doing it though. Wouldn't it be nice to buy a renault road car with the same block as in their F1 car? It is all about marketing and the association between what they race and what they sell. And when you consider the hard economic times as of late and the mass exodus 2 years ago when F1 lost BMW, Honda and Toyota all within 12 months, something needed to be done to keep the costs down.
It's a shame but I can't see it changing anytime soon. But then again, we had one the best seasons for 20 years last year, so may be it isn't such a bad thing after all.
What the stupid boys of the FIA don't seem to realise is that there is no real cost now with the current engine formula which is what they wanted. Now everyone is going to have to spend tens of millions developing the new 4pot turbo engines.
