Default IMPREZA or FOCUS ST

Just wondered if anyone has gone from
subaru to a focus st ( 2.5 )

Are they any good 'performance wise' compared to a good spec classic Impreza ?

Went from a newage to Focus ST3, more comfortable, better build and more toys.
Defo not as quick but in the real world going through the gears I've kept up with STi's.

Also I'll be heading down the Dreamscience route in the near future, plug in and play remaps

went from subaru sti to focus st 8 months later back in a subaru. nice cars but dreadfull in the winter and build quality is not like the "old fords"

plus there has been known cracked liners when pushed to near 300bhp

Mines been great in the winter, heated leather seats and proper winter tyres goes a long way

Then again I'm getting old and after 8 years and a worsening image, it was the right time for me to change marque

heated front screens are A1 but does seem to make that alternator work hard,
seats are one of best i have sat in i do miss them
but that noise when it loses grip in the snow from the traction control/abs is just nasty and cheap sounding.
no amount of winter tyres will help them in snow there is just too much torque going to those front wheels i couldnt get on my drive nothin very frustrating when you been driving 4x4 last few years, came back to a subaru and never looked back.

I had an 07 plate Focus ST and didnt rate it....thirsty (even compared to an Impreza), bad build quality, noticeably front heavy and ESP thats over sensitive.
I also had Dreamscience and this made it alot better but the turbo did run out of puff quite quickly.

Overall i much prefered the VXR Nurburgring i got to replace it.

as a comparison, mate of mine has the new focus RS. it is comfier and softer than my scooby (WR1, 315bhp), but mine will kick his *** in terms of quickness and handling. so your considering going from a more powerful scooby than mine, to a less powerful focus than his.

depends what you want i guess. admittedly, the focus has some lovely gadgets, and is nicer on long journeys. but i only use mine for short country road blasts a few times a week. You need to work out what you are using the car for. Personally tho, I would take the scooby any day, even if you upgrade to a newage STi, i think you will prefer it to a focus

I went from a focus ST2 to an E46 M3 (still have) to a version 2 Impreza sti (still have and using daily) and other than for fuel consumption reasons I wouldn't go back. ST's are renowned for being bad on fuel but it's how you drive them.

My ST would return 40mpg on a run if you were boringly sensible and 30mpg on a run if you had fun but my M3 is doing mid 20's all the time and my Impreza is worse and makes the M3 look good lmao

The ST was a really nice car but it didn't handle, it was too nose heavy and loved to understeer and because mine was on a dreamscience it had loads of torque and it ate tyres! It was a very nice car but it was no fun, I'd own another but only to save fuel hahahahaha

I have test driven (a short one) an ST, and I was well......fairly disappointed. The steering was nothing to shout about, brakes were overassisted which made heel toe almost impossible, can't comment on handling as i wasn't able to drive it hard enough, because the sales lady was a 50+ year old lady who was grabbing the "oh ****!" handle and kept quiet throughout as soon as i gave it some I must say though the low end pull and the noise it makes for a stock car is pretty impressive. Unintentional wheelspin is free. It needs a proper front diff.

That said, although i've yet driven one. The MK2 RS looks like a serious bit of kit. I think all things constant (driver, conditions etc) the MK2 RS would give a regular UK STI a serious run for its money. That's just what i think. Feel free to prove me wrong.

I would agree with that. I have driven my mates Mk2 RS and it is certainly rapid. I believe they put out 440Nm torque, which gives it awesome overtaking power in 4th gear. but i think it would be a definite step down from a 340bhp, 4wd impreza. probably too much of a step in terms of performance and handling

Went through three driveshafts with my Focus ST3 that I had for 3yrs before getting my wr1. ST has more torque than a standard WR1, less tracton, fun car, lots of toys but too many issues when you get the power over 330bhp on the Focus ST. Definately a track ready car as standard. If you are thinking an RS with revo-knuckle will solve the traction issue, think again.

An ST with DreamScience or Superchips remap gives a decent amount of grunt and mods are cheap to get up to 340ish bhp, nice cars but not for me anymore now ive found 4wd

I was tempted with a pre reg ST3.... in white.. about £18k

But the more I thought about it..
interior was no better than my wifes 54plate focus,
its not 4wd.
In four years what will it be worth?
No better on fuel than a scoob.
Plus side was the headed screen (you only get this on Fords/Mini's) and the electric toys, auto head lights/wipers.

in the end I've gone and found a 330s (in white) two years old and a bit more ££££ but ithas 4wd, 330bhp and you don't see many about

Bloke at my work has a Focus RS in bright green, and it cannot keep up with my STI SpecD. Loses initially and cant get it back, certainly upto around the legal limit

RS books at around 6 secs to 60, and seems around that, dont get me wrong, quick car indeed, but due to real world conditions i.e. Traction, a hawk Sti certainly does it, from standing start.

Test drove and nearly bought an ST a while ago, it was modded to around 280BHP and had a Pumabuild 8pot brake setup, very quick once rolling, stopping power like you wouldn't believe.

Did notice a bit of torque steer at that power level and I couldn't help thinking it would have been a real handfull through the lower gears in the wet.

My Scoob will eat a standard ST for breakfast. Of course.

what is it they used to say, 150bhp is too much for fwd, then 200bhp is the max for fwd
seems to keep going up heh

my old ctr was only 200bhp and that was a struggle sometimes to get moving from a standstill/roll, specially in the damp
gwad knows what the RS and ST are like
Im a Ford fan boy tho and would of loved one before id tried 4wd heh
still would be up for getting a Escort Cosworth mind

I wish the rumours about the new RS being 4wd were true though, wish Ford would do a quick 4wd again :/
