considering it, real heart V head battle though. shocker before though was in the last year i have done 19k miles. roughly £50 a tank (although nearer £60, i know) - 250 miles (max) to a tank, so £200 for 1000 miles= £2k for 10k miles = £4k fuel bill for the year, although probably nearer £5k!!!! really struggling to justify it when adding £1k (hopefully this year- fingers crossed) £450 Tax, service costs and then the rest, mods etc, on top. Have even considered getting a £500 run around for through the week, but dont think it will work out much cheaper tbh!

Just bought the wife a new car & instead of selling her Fiesta I'm using it for work & saving the scooby for the weekends.

I used to fill up with approx £60 per week, I've been running the Fiesta for 3 weeks now & only used half a tank of petrol. With the money I'm saving I'm thinking of selling the WRX and buying a STI

Drive to work half the time (cycle the remainder). In it every second day.

Still love the old girl after 4 yrs. No matter how much abuse I give her she sticks with me!

Besides..... i can insure, tax, MOT, service and put fuel in my runaround for the year, and it's still cheaper than getting the train, and it takes half the time to get to work.

To be fair, they have never been cheap cars to run/insure/tax though have they?
I upgraded to a Hawk STI in October and i'm sticking There's no way i'm getting some ugly diesel civic or whatever just to save a few quid.

I'm spending about £400/month on Fuel (400 miles a week)...

There's a hope my current project finishes soon, maybe March time.

It's finally come to the point where it's more expensive to drive than get the train. Car from Cambridge to Hemel Hempstead - 50 miles / £400, Train from Cambridge to London - 50 miles / £360

Not great.

Can't use the train to pop down the shops though whenever you like, or go for a 'spirited' drive on a nice Sunday morning.

I have a diesel Skoda octavia for work and only use my RS6 at weekends despite a nigh on 700 insurance bill and tax beginning in Feb.Luckily £90 of fuel has lasted me a month no plans to get rid just yet

Quite right, but a toyota Aygo will get me to the shops (and isn't a bad little motor TBH), and for the £400/month I'm saving in petrol, the £69/month in insurance, and whatever on the car payments for a "Weekend car"I could rent a lotus elise for a long weekend every month for less

£600 per month here - fortunately, I can claim my mileage back so I save a bit in tax.. still hurts though!

I'll be keeping the WRX though as I would need to spend a fair chunk more to get something I'd actually want and when I did the maths, lpg or a cheap run-about were the only ways to actually save cash - everything else was just false economy (with interest payments and depreciation out-weighing the extra cost of fuel).
