Expert knowledge needed!! Bug eye WRX or Evo 4??
Hi
I know this is an age old arguement but i've not been able to find any comparisons of the evo 4 to a mod'd wrx so i'm in need of help!!!
I have abit of a dilemma at the moment and would appreciate some advice from people who know what they're on about!
I'm currently selling my integra type r and have been offered a couple of good looking swaps. The first is a 2001 Scoob WRX with the following mods - Boost and oil pressure gauges
- Morettes
- STI rear spoiler
- Front Strut brace
- K'N Apollo enclosed induction
- Full Turbo back exhaust including full headers, full decatted and ninja rear backbox.
- 3 port boost solenoid (Perrin)
- NGK 7's
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- Remap by RACEDYNAMIX (290 Bhp)
has full history, now on 78k and cam belt was last done at 55k.
the other is an Evo 4 on 63k, just had a cambelt and standard apart from a 3" full exhaust system.
Which one to go for???????? I'm looking for something to use mostly on the roads as a weekend/evening toy and occaisional track use too.
With those mods, would the scoob be close to the performance of the Evo? (0-60 in 4.8) i know its not all about 0-60 but the feel of a good launch puts a smile on my face! : )
also, whats the reliability like on a mod'd scoob as its only meant to be coping with 215bhp from the factory?
and as the scoob has done 23k since it last had a belt, will it need another one soon?
If i could sell the teg i'd get a scoob type r but im only being offered swaps and part ex's!!!
any help would be greatly appreciated.
cheers people

If only the Subaru has FSH then choose that one. If they both have it then I'd be very torn between the two.
The cars don't have an awful lot between them. I'd take them for a drive out for an hour and see.

yeh fair point. its only the scoob that has history. the evo is an import so it's got nothing apart from receipts for the recent service and cambelt!
but history isnt always that important to me as i've had numerous cars with no history that have been maintained by enthusiastic owners and the Evo is on lower miles??
i think im swaying towards the scoob now????

Agreed FSH is not all that important if you know the cars inside and out. But it is a very good indication of how the owner looks after it. I.E willing to pay as soon as something wears out. Instead of owner knows it is worn and plans to fix it later.
Take um for a drive and see what you think...
And at 290bhp............................ It'll do that all day every day.

Evo 4 suffered from crank walk which killed the engines, which is why most of them have been changed. My mate has an Evo 4, and its an animal, really nice to drive, and my other mate has a bug wrx, not been out in that, but been told its a very nice drive. Evo is running 340bhp and the WRX is 220bhp. I love the scooby noise, but i'd be tempted towards the Evo, purely because its easier to fix than a scooby, lol, but i'm still after a scooby once i've sold my Astra.

I would choose the scoob simply due to the age of the evo mate and things needing replacing plus thescoob seems like it's been looked after like i said in the other thread to the bloke asking advice

Cheers for that guys. Im seriously tempted with the scoob now. Just dropped into my local dealer to see what they've got too so may take an sti out for a test drive this week. Over priced but if I can get it cheaper it would be good. It's a silver 52 plate sti on 59k but up for £7500 at dongles Norwich! Huge money for that but its pretty nice! Dealer warranty also.

I am actually in a very similar situation right now weather to buy a bug eye wrx or a Evo 4 roughly about the same price but the Evo is 5 yr older but half as many miles insurance the same this has been going over and over in my mind since b4 Xmas now I'm looking for both right now and it's not the make that's going to make the decision for me it will be the example

Having owned 3 Impreza's (Hawkeye WRX, Bugeye S202 and a Blobeye Spec C) I'm would go for the Evo 4.
It has more road presence than the Bugeye WRX and I really like them, from what I understand they are cheaper and easier to get more power out of than the Impreza you are looking at.
It's your choice at the end of the day but I'd definitely test driving both of them before making your choice.
The Bugeye STi on the other hand would definitely win over the Evo.
