help before this becomes the last straw!
Jesus when will it ever end!!
I have a my95 wrx, with pp chip, 3in dp and system, ik and silicone intake, resonator delete.
I used to suffer problems of half a bar boost which drove me mad, but thats fixed now im on tesco momentum all the time.
All was fine until today on the way to work. I was driving when i noticed the heaters started blowing cold, i then check the temp gauge and its at maximum. What the F**K is going on now??
I tried to fill with water through the header tank and let it run till the bubbles went away, temp gauge on idle is normal but heaters are still blowing cold, Im too scared to drive it as i reckon i'll get 10yards and it'll overheat. So i've abandoned the bugger and borrowed a car from work.
What could be wrong?
My line of thinking in best to worst case scenario is:-
-Air lock (doubt it is this)
-Thermostat fail (where is this located?)
-A dodgy heater switch ( I wish)
-Water pump fail (again where would i find this, and how could i check, would i see water circulating in the header tank?)
-GOD-DAMNED head gasket failure (how would i identify this? oil filler cap seems normal as in no sign of emulsifying)
What would other scoobynetters check or do first and assuming it is head gasket failure is this a relatively simple job to do?
If it looks as though im going to have to throw money at the car i reckon i'll bite the bullet and break her.
Cheers lads

it could be a massive air lock cause if you opened the header tank and all the water came out as it would if its hot when refilling could cause airlock best bet is find a localy garage and get them to do a headgasket test simple thing takes 5 mins to do where are you based if not far dont mind doing it

Subarus can be very hard to bleed as the cooling system runs back to front, just drive the car 50 or so yards and if possible drive up onto something so the front is elivated, this usually does it.
Have you lost water? if so you got a leak somewhere.
If your thermostat has failed your bottom rad hose will be cool/cold. If it is hot then your thermostat is open and working, You thermostat is what joins your bottom rad hose, next thing is to check your water pump but that a cambelt off job.
Head gasket failure would show water in your oil and oil in your water, you can do a sniff test where you take a sample of water and add a chemical to it, if the water changes colour it means it has detected exhaust gasses in your water.
hope this helps.

alrighty doesnt sound too bad then, when i pulled over on noticing the overheat i undid the cap and steam pissed out, then on the expansion bottle water started pissing out of the little 10mm overflow hosey thing. The water was brown as ****.
I gather if the head gasket failed i would notice water in the sump?
I'll order a thermostat as there relatively cheap and also perhaps a new rad considering the sludge that was pissing out.
200sex - im in aberdeen, but am fairly competent with the tools, how ould i do a head gasket check?
Thanks for all the good advice lads.

Thats the kit I was on about where you take a samle of your coolent. Your best bet it to ask your local garage if they have that kit and if they could do a test for you. cheaper than buying a kit that you will only use once.
If your water was really brown I would flush your system though a couple of times before putting coolent back in.
