D.I.Y. turbo swap, anyone done one?
I need to swap the turbo on my 06 Hawk from the current TD04 to a hybrid AFP4H, and I'm wondering if anyone has posted a thread on changing a turbo on a similar car which I could take a look at. I've taken a look through the manual and the job looks pretty straightforward and as the replacement unit is physically much the same externally, I'm hoping it's just a couple of hours work?
Thanks
Tim

It is a pretty straigt forward job, providing nuts are ok and not stuck. Best thing to do is spray with duck oil or wd40 on nut Let it soak for a bit.
Have new gaskets ready.
Don't rush it.

Thanks Mrchips, yes I'll have new gaskets ready and pre- soak the nuts and have a whole weekend to do the work if required. Is it best to put some oil in the new unit before cranking or will turning it over with the ignition fuse pulled be ok for priming the new turbo?
Cheers

And you'll love the TD04 hybrid. Spot on turbo. Good all round.

Alright mate, the turbo swap is pretty straight forward providing you have some previous experience with spanner work which i presume you have to take on the job.
One piece of advice always pre fill turbo before cranking, best to do it once your about ready to start as the oil feed pipe is easily accessed as its right on top of the turbo, just pump some down into the core till it fills to the top and let that go down abit and then put alittle bit more and you will be fine mate.
Btw you will need a remap
