i think opinion as changed on running in though due to tighter tolerances
afaik you dont havee to be gentle as in the past and it can actually have a negative effect, see if an engine builder answers this thread and proves me right or wrong
but i wouldnt want to bounce it off the limit either

there's mixed opinions on this, i've seen a few people suggest, whilst running low boost, to do 100 miles keeping below 3000rpm, change oil and filter do another 500 miles keeping below 4000-4500 rpm again change oil and filter and then do another 500 miles at any rev range. Once this process is done, up the boost and off ya go. The only problem i can see with this way is it can lead to glazing on the bores and not really allow the rings to bed in properly.
Other opinions are after doing the necessary 100 miles to make sure all is well with the build etc, to then get in the car and drive it like you stole it, obviously changing the oil as necessary etc.
