Default Hi all new to scoobys and need advice

Hi all im new to the scene and forum. I have been in the ford scene for a number of years and really fancied a change and decided to get a subaru 2000. Not the fastest thing on earth but its a bit of a toy.
What are usually the first mods you all do to them? What are the internals like? Where would you recomend for mapping? There are a few companys buy me that will do basic mapping ( chipped uk & evolution chip dealers )

Thanks

Depending on what model you have, (some details would be good),, mapping could be expensive: the 97/98 UK cars can't be mapped and need an after market ecu

Also depending on the model, brakes and suspension are good starting places.

Take lots of advice and sift carefully, if in doubt approach a REPUTABLE tuner, since these engines are unforgiving if you get it wrong, and VERY expensive to rebuild

Cheers for the help guys and the links were a great help. What are the turbo limits? i know a bit about the T series turbos but not the TD04,5,6 ect.

Also what are the reasons for different lengt headers. some sell them with equal lenght and others not. Any tuning info about these engines is apreciated.

With headers, depends if you want to keep the burble or improve performance regardless, equal length headers will alter and dilute the distinctive scooby sound.

If buying exhaust pipework it's easy enough to find what fits what year, just browse one of the well know performance parts suppliers and they'll show the year/model that the parts are made to fit, then if you are looking for used parts it'll help you know which cars to get bits from. If buying new the dealer's web sites are self explanatory.

At what point are the STD turbo tail off? what i mean in that is boost wise and power? to get the desired 300bhp do you have to go Td05 ?

Your TD04 turbo will be pretty much maxed out at 300bhp so a TD05 would be a better cheap option. Or better still, go for a VF turbo. They spool up quicker so offer more boost at lower revs and can take 300+ bhp.

Hi mate i brought my car to you 02 wrx sportwagon the guy didn't really explain to me why it couldn't be chipped. He just said the ecu was locked and he thought someone else had fiddled with it all the way up the A1 the diagnostic light was on what could you advise to rectify this to get it re-mapped.
