E85 bio fuel mapping
hi all
theres a morrisons not far from me that stocks this and I was wondering if my sti5 will run on this safely en route to a remapping session or what are the pros and cons of this fuel apart from availabilty?
Was thinking about a map on V power but just wondered about this stuff.
Theres hardly any morrisons garages up here that stock it.

You can do a percentage of e85 but it would have to be big to match a meths map for eg 10% meths you would need 20% e85. Adding a mix to the map is good when your local but on along drive it can be a bit of a nightmare as you may have to carry the additive with you for fill ups and if you have to add more e85 its more3 in the boot

Waste of time having it done as Morrisons will soon be stopping stocking this and other than bulk buying from specialist suppliers you'll have no way of sourcing it.
As Steve said you'll need a percentage of this i.e 20% e85 80% v power.
DO NOT USE Neat E85, you'll be needing a new engine quick sharp if you do.
Stick to vpower its far easier.

Plenty of cars both stock(Saab, Ford, Volvo) and tuned run on E85 here in Sweden, including mine. Why would you need a new engine if running on E85 (must have a proper remap of course)? It's the redish colour in the fuel that can clog injectors, inlet manifold and so on so it's a good idea to run on regular 98 octane every five tanks or something or you can use Redline's alcohol additive.
Got 370 hp from a VF28 compared to 348 hp on Vpower. But E85 needs 30-40% more fuel so I run 740cc injectors.
I have a Simtek so I can switch maps depending on which fuel I want to use.
But if E85 isn't available anymore in the UK then it's a bad idea of course In Sweden pretty much every station has E85 (more like E75 in the vinter time).

The OP was asking if he could simply fill his car with E85 and then drive to have it remapped. As I mentioned if he did this he'd probably do a piston.
I'm running a 20% methanol mix in mine to good effect (601bhp and 565 ftlbs) the bonus of methanol is its cheap and readily available.
