Default 2008 >> Si Drive question

Been reading the book about that Diff thing and currently its in auto, when u press it in Auto you get a + or a - what is that

I read a review somewhere that + was the best settings.

Also it goes on about 3 settings for the Traction controls on off and another. On off and Traction, is this where i set these or is that another area

thanks guys

Sorry reading book does me head in

+ = front wheel bias (drives more like a FWD car)

- = Rear wheel bias (drives more like a RWD car)

Stick with full Auto or Auto -

Whats this got to do with Si drive? that's the **** in the middle of the console!

For the diff I thought the + setting tightened the diff so less wheeel spin (on a launch for example) - setting losened it off so you can turn tighter?

Press and hold the traction control button for 3 second until the light on the dash turns green, that keeps the abs and esp but dumbs them down. Quick press of the button turns the traction control off (yellow light) or on (no light)

Alternatively read the nice book call the manual Subaru provide you with!

Interesting

I got that info from when they tested the STI on 5th Gear... Tiff was on a wet track illustrating the + and - settings on the DCCD-A ...showing how in "-" the car had more front end bite and the rear was slightly more tail happy... though not by much.

I'm not the greatest lover of Tiff, but I thought he really was being a **** on that test! I generally use mine in I mode and it's not as slow as he makes out, S# is a lot more aggresive obviously but for everyday driving i can live with I mode.

I leave the diff in auto, tried + and - but didn't notice a lot of difference. In the snow I locked it a couple of times manually...not sure if it helped but i didn't get stuck!

ha ha

I tried "lock" in snow too.... slid around just as much... nightmare... but then again I have the cr4p F1 eagles on it... which are possibly the worse cold weather tyre I've ever encountered... you really need to warm them up to get them to grip

Keep as normal unless you are driving hard, green reduces the torque limiters so more power, also more chance to crash as esp is turned down!

so to go quick, traction in green, Si drive to S#....difff settings dont seem to make a lot of difference IMHO so leave in auto

Off means no abs (I think) or ebs...can be interesting on a wet road, very sideways very quickly!

The human drives them, the electronics stops you crashing lol

Unless you take into account the throttle is fly by wire so is the computer really driving?

traction light ORANGE = ABS works, no traction control, no vehicle dynamics control, power output not reduced

traction light GREEN = ABS works, traction and vehicle dynamics control works however intervention is delayed, power output is not reduced

traction light OFF = everything is on, power output reduced, blah blah

as for the SI drive,

I = 0-75% power available, linear over pedal travel, but smooth slow delivery
S = 0-100% power available, linear over pedal travel
S# = 0-100% power available, but over far less pedal travel - something like 50%, or so it seems, not sure what else it does tbh

afaik

Does all this paraphernalia contribute to the Sti weighing in at a 'lardy' 1505 Kg.

How is power output reduced when the traction light is on? Boost limited?? This is something new on me, had the car at a rolling road day recently and traction light was left off, in 's' mode and diff auto. Just shy of 330bhp,340lb/ft was quite a nice result with just a cat back and suggested power was not being limited (maybe even a touch optimistic tho )

I also thought si drive was purely throttle mapping and had no effect on power output. Again how does it limit it to 75%? I mode i understood was not linear at all.

I'd be interested where you got your info from.

Tony.

An Integrale would be suitable anywhere... especially if it's an EVO and red. 'Performance Car' of the decade and no doubt!

Actually remembered i've still got an original EVO press pack in the loft, my boy hood ultimate car
