You would reset the ecu to a degree i think.
You might see the knock redardment factor rest, then the ecu would slowly adjust timing, fueling as it finds it's correct settings for the oxygen sensors to reach lambda 1.
It should do this pretty quick though.
Hopefully Splitpin or another clued up bod will be on here to fully explain buddy

I've been given advice before that disconnecting the battery WILL reset the ECU. So, it's probably just trying to work out what's the best configuration and should be back to normal soon.

It wont reset a new age ecu's memory, its not volitile its a none volitile memory (ie no power doesnt clear it, classics were volitile so powering off deleted what the car had learnt).
If its an AVCS car then it could be that the AVCS has not kicked in yet, shouldnt take too long but it has to learn again, this can be knocked off by removing the power supply.

No, unless there was a fault with the chip. It is no different to your computer, once you install the operating system, it is always there unless you overwrite it.
What will change when you reset the ECU is that any refinements it has learnt beyond the base map such as tweaks for bad fuel will be lost.

As has been said it will have cleared some of the learnt ignition and fuel corrections if battery off for a while.
It should relearn fairly quick assunming all is 100% and you have good fuel in the car.
