Default Need a Tracker.

Options please people.
I need a tracker to appease my insurance company as the subaru im about to pick up is "more desirable" than my previous cars. However they could not provide me with a list of approved models
SO ideally I would like to get one for as little as possable and preferably without a monthly fee. I dont like the idea of paying someone "just incase".
I'm not adverce to fitting it myself or organising it myself so that should open up the playing field.

I've been doing this research just the last week. Lots of users recommend RAC Trackstar - but this comes with a subscription and is quite expensive all in. I've opted for a Tracker Horizon but again this is expensive, around 250 to fit and 350ish for duration of car ownership subscription.

If you're looking to fit a one off system that will help insurance but involves no monthly subs, a Thatcham approved alarm/imob might be better - Clifford Concepts with Blackjax seems very popular and has had some decent reviews from chaps on here.

Ultimately it comes down to how likely someone is to pinch your pride and joy, and what you think it is worth paying to prevent some scallywag getting his grubby mits on it. Lowering insurance is all very well but it will go up if you have to claim for a stolen unrecovered motor.

The insurance company have said they will not cover any theft related claim until I have a tracker system fitted along with the cat1 alarm and imobiliser. The Tracker Horizon and Monitor had caught my eye but do they have a monthly subscription?

Default tracker

Why not just find an insurance company that dont insist on a tracker being fitted.
And if my car was nicked, would i want it back after some greasy little snot had thrashed it to death, no i don't think i would

Annual subscription, but you get the option of taking out a lifetime subscription which, IIRC, is less than 3 years worth.

Bit stupid they cant give you a list of approved models, what if you fit and their not happy with the one you choose?

In the distant past when I worked for a large insurer with a jowelly mascot we had list of approved ones. Really didn't enjoy doling out the good news when someone needed a tracker!

Your probably best getting quotes on a few that you like and then calling the insurance company back to see if it is on their approved list rather than getting one fitted and it not being approved....

I've got a cobra trak 1st on mine and i think it was around £350 to fit and the 1st years subscription. Think it was around £70 a year from then on, or you can pay a lifetime subscription when you buy it but can't remember how much that was???

I've got a Tracker (just add the .co.uk bit to find them on them net) - Tracker Horizon - about £400 ish to fit and £135 pa or £350 lifetime cover. You cannot fit it yourself and it has to stay with the car for life. The unit is hidden in the car by the way so expect your car to be dismantled to fit it and to lose about 2 hours of your life whilst they do it (car must be off road too). You get a certificate to send to the insurance co.

As for the insurance - well I'll save at least £350 every year, they did insist on Thatham alarm/immob and Tracker. I got a quote stating that the car had the Tracker Horizon, then sorted the Tracker - I got 28 days from taking out the policy to send them the certificate but it wasnt covered for theft during that time - so the quicker the better . I decided I'd rather pay the extra to secure the car and not give the robbing insurance companies any more money than I have to...

BTW Tracker Monitor just has VHF signal, Tracker Horizon has VHF signal and GPS - in August they were being offered at the same annual subscription price - worth checking out the website. Hope this helps.

ok so after a week of getting quotes and ideas of places to get this done this quote would seem to be the best, they come to my location and fit it where ever the car is so can probably have it done whilst I'm at work which is a bonus. Next mission is to get a competative quote from other insurance companies and then convince my current company to lower my insurance premium in line with the competitor quotes.

TRACKER Retrieve £179.00 Inc VAT and installation.

Subscription Options:

Annual: £91.92 Inc VAT

Monthly: £7.66 Inc VAT per month.

TRACKER Monitor £199.00 Inc VAT and installation.

Subscription Options:

Annual: £135 Inc VAT

Duration: £350 Inc VAT

TRACKER Horizon £235.00 Inc VAT and installation.

Subscription Options:

Annual: £135 Inc VAT

Duration: £350 Inc VAT

wish me luck

PS if anyone is interested in getting a tracker and is wanting more information on the company that supplied this quote then feel free to ask. I get the impression that if we were to organise a group buy there may be some level of discount but I have not asked the rep.

Where I got my tracker Horizon from, price includes fitting.
http://www.chameleondirect.com/vehic...urity-tracking

Also take today, I had car in the drive for an hour. Took my trolley jack out and jacked up the front and put a wheel onto a ramp, by the time I`d done the other side, I had the Automated phonecall asking if my car had been stolen lol.
So 100% worth it imho.

I have just changed cars and my old one had a tracker , the new one doesn't , the guy I sold my car to must have re registered the tracker in his name , and I had a flyer through the post from tracker offering to fit a new tracker monitor to my new car for £99 plus £135 a year subscription.
I am getting a tracker Locate fitted for £199 plus £145 a year subscription

Default Don't bother ...

Waste of time IMHO (£500 ish to s&f&track & doesn't really get you much off the premium). Just get another insurance co who don't ask for a tracker

TX.

Why not go with the cheaper company (assuming you find one), especially if they don't need a tracker

well bit of a long answer but here goes.
In 2007 I was involved in an accident which was proven to not be my fault however because it took me some time before I was driving with my own insurance again (was named driver on wife's car) my insurance company at the time said that I had too much of a gap and therefor would not be able to provide me with proof of no claims (not sure how accurate that is tbh). So I've worked up two years no claims and am currently 6 months into my third year I would like to complete this year not only because I would have to wait 18 months before I gain that 3rd year no claims, but because my current insurance company will charge me to end the insurance half way through.
At the same time I dont really want to run the risk of having the car for 6 months without any theft cover.
