Talking Cross Roads Subaru have a new STi Saloon

Went over yesterday to test drive it as im thinking of chopping my hatch in against one.

Its so much better out of the box than the standard hatch, Seats, suspension, dash inserts and i think it sounds better too.

Very tempted

How old's your hatch - It's an STI I presume?

Did they tell you the price of the saloon?

My Hatch is an 08, and yes an Sti
yeah its quite a bit more than the hatch but its vastly improved.

They now come as standard with the seats and keyless entry the 330's have, along with the suspension from the spec c they have also changed all the dash inserts to black instead of the crappy grey colour they currently are, alot of other little things too like the heated front wippers that the uk car never got before.

Let's be fair - it wouldn't be too hard to look better visually

I thought the suspension was standard and not the spec c, IIRC it was assumed it was due to the one lapping the ring but was not.

Mind yo at 33k + then they have the budget to spend a few quid on it!

Wasn't the TM "ring" car basically an R205 with saloon body?

I'd be surprised if they carry that suspension over to the standard STI saloon though.. very un Subaru/IM like.

Everyone that's driven it here has raved about it.
Suspension is firmer than the 08MY (spring rate is up 53% on the rear and 16% on the front, stiffer ARBs all round) but it is absolutely awesome to drive. Much more progressive on the limit and inspires more confidence at speed. It's 10x the car the 08MY was in my opinion and I loved that! I suggest that anyone who knocks the styling should see one in the flesh. Ours is white with the accessory spoiler and I think it looks the mutts nuts.
Just a shame about the price but we knew it had to happen and at least it is a better product.

Keyless entry is absolutely fantastic - those that that have it will know the benefits
The Recaros are also great, so thats good the UK car has those too, but beware fatties will not fit in them

Utter s**t. It's hideous, and WTF is going on when we're defining a "better" Impreza by the fact it has keyless entry and heated wiper blades? Since when has ANYONE needed crap like that, and what exactly do either of those do for the driving experience?

Imprezas used to be drivers' cars. They no longer are. Sad but true.

The small lip spoiler just finishes it off
Looks fantastic in the White
Sometimes we have to move with the times as the classics are starting to rust away and disapear from the roads
Price has kept with the years and inflation
A new turbo in 2000 was £22700 and the P1 was 32k
I'm sure by the sounds of it the soft sprung and sea sickness has become a thing of the past

Have you driven one? I'll stick my neck out and say this is the best handling UK Impreza ever!

I love the new saloon - Crossroads let me take theirs for an extended test yesterday - motorway and minor roads and I just loved it. My current scooby is a Spec B, so it is quite a change for me, but the current Legacy range lacks a top end engine, and the Outback is just ugly. I think the saloon looks great and drives like a dream both on those twisty narrow B roads round here, but also just cruising on the motorway. In every sense I think it is still a drivers car - we did have a WRX before the shape change and I much prefer the new saloon.....yes it has a few refinements too over the hatch and previous MY's, but I dont think it makes it any less the drivers car for it. Looked great in white but want to see the midnight blue one in the flesh. I drove the MY10 hatchback today too as a comparison a 330STI and it was a slightly softer ride probably better for me on the long distances and obviously had that extra power which made it fun - but given I could add the extra power to the saloon, then I think it will be a saloon for me to be honest.....I think it looks an absolute treat and nothing like the Avensis!

The rawness and oddness is what drew me and I'm sure many others to Imprezas in the first place. I don't think Subaru will ever be able compete in the more general market they are aiming for in the UK. However, the UK is only a very small part of their market so presumably they have a global strategy and must be able to sell these boring looking cars somewhere?

Am I the only one that think it looks like the latest Civic Type R Hatch. Its deffinately not an 'Impreza' which in my mind is a 'does what it says on the tin' type of car. This example looks like its aimed at the sales reps / junior execs for zooming up and down the motorway.
