well IF its been mapped for higher octane fuell? the setings in the ecu have been altered to deliver more power> The lower octane fuel wont burn as well and this in turn could cause the engine to det and destoy its self> hopefully the cars knock system will detect any det and adjust the timing etc to cope with the fuel, Depends alot on what new parameters have been set via the chip or re-map

If it is a uk car then depending on what year it is then 95 ron fuel will be fine,99/00 models onwards are designed to run on 97(superunleaded),but the earlier classics can run on 95 albeit a touch down on overall power. The WRX's ran on japanese 100 ron fuel ,and can have a tendancy to pink when run on lower octane uk fuel.

What model and year of car is it ?. Also how much fuel was in the tank before you filled up. Personally my car was designed to run on 97 Ron fuel, I have always put either v power or tesco 99 fuel in the tank, I think you should always use the best fuel available especially if there is no detrimental effect to your engine.

your car will run better on vpower, but if you need to run 95 for a short time, it will be fine as long as you dont rag the *** off it. when you find a pump with 97 or vpower just add to the mix.
A load of bollocks and scaremongering about engines blowing up only goes to show that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Had to stick £10 unleaded in mine last night as Shell & Tesco were both out of Super
First time i've ever put 'normal' unleaded in the car so i've been keeping it off boost since (just in case!)

This may be a silly question but I'm new so please forgive me:
So for a totally standard GB270, you should only really run it on v.power or similar, if possible, but for pootling around like a fairy it is fine to fun 95 RON tesco pump fuel etc without risking major damage? The impression is as soon as you fiddle with the ECU that changes?

keep the boost down Rich
You will be getting detination issues..if you can feel it or not... and as for scare mongering...if it was my motor I'd rather be safe than sorry...if it grenaded itself I'd rather not be thinking "what if"
