Default question for the masses

got a choice between 2 scoobys and was wondering what most people would pick?
the 2 are-

1- 2005 sti blob eye low millage 320ish bhp

2- 2001 p1 with forged engine around 400bhp

both very tidy cars at a similar price

cheers for help

i would go for the p1 personally but there getting harder to get parts for. blob eye may be better off because its newer and has better comfort boot space.

Which parts would that be?

I would take the STI, if the P1 is running 400 then its only a matter of time before the box goes bang....wont have to worry about that with the STI.

imo they are good strong blocks but depends how you look after it mainly to how long itl last. long as you keep it serviced and topped up with oil you shouldnt have a problem.

all depends who has done the mods to the p1 and receipts to prove. i.e has it got a dog box or a 6speed it should have 1 of those for that power what ecu who mapped it etc...

P1 for me mate, little more exclusive than the more common blob sti, stunning colour lighter car etc. its a no brainer for me!!!granted you dont have the luxury of a newage but you got some serious raw power with the p1, and a (should be) very reliable forged rebuild. perhaps the box may go but i rekon youd be able to source a replacment/upgrade through someone like API etc, good luck with your choice whatever it may be!

Ah well if thats the case P1, dont matter about reliablity then if its not your main car... well thats my view. Only because your heart says P1, and seeing as its not going to be your main car then it doesnt matter if it blows up so much (appart from the cost of fixing it).

my thoughts exactly loose count on how many blob eyes i see driving about and when you do, you dont look twice but you see a p1 and your eyes are fixed to it.

having a blob, reckon id be tempted with the fully forged p1..i think i have a weight issue, or my car has anyway...

as long as it had the 6speed box, or get saving up for one.........

i think either way you would be happy....

very good rep company how recent. got a print out for power?? it wont be spot on 400, service history at the clinic?? check with scoobyclinic as some people make up the paperwork. 400bhp p1 would be an animal and imo the best looking scooby bar the 22b.

just need to do your homework on it don't rush wish i had that advise when i got mine lol

you can get a mapper to check the car to see if its knocking, or if its got an apexi ecu the will be a knock readout. also is it a 2.0 forged block? is it a closed deck block? could be a 2,5 conversion or a 2.1 stroker. just ask all the questions and maybe get the clinic involved to check it over (worth while) and if they are happy with the car, it should be a very good perchace

You need to try both, the classic feels quicker and more lively anyway, but at 400 bhp it should make you grin !

New-Age STI is comfier and tougher, but less edgy...

P.S. After 8 years in a bug, I'd love a 2 door to stick in the garage...

And I would not swap mine for a P1.
