looking to buy a subaru!!!!! mpg anyone?
I have owned lots of bikes and am currently getting 36mpg from my zx6r, got 30mpg from my suzuki hayabusa
So what mpg do you get from a subaru 2.0L impretza stock? and a 2.0 Turbo impretza stock? just on driving around sencible and not thrashing it... i would get a 2.5L turbo just can't afford it on insurence... Its 600 pounds a year difference just for the turbo!!
I only have 2,500 pounds to spend on one, from ebay so its going to be a 1997 to 2000 year model, with less than 100,000 miles i hope...
And if anyone knows, what would the mpg be on a bmw 320 petrol convertible?
Cheers

Don’t want to put you off, but if MPG is a concern I’m not sure an Impreza is the car for you..........may sound a little negative but the Impreza is not known for its economy and low running costs.
Most people seem to get low 20's as an average of mixed driving (bit of town, bit of motorway and a bit of enjoying the cars performance)

i used to get 29-30MPG from my old 1.6 16V astra when i had to commute across the city. 6 miles took 45mins and if i was lucky i would get into 3rd gear a handfull of times.....i soon brought a bike and cycled to work unless it was raining and then i moved house.
depends on the route to work i guess.

25 mpg max Id say. If you get a turbo model you will want to give it some especially if its your first impreza so it will be more like 20 mpg. The non turbo model isnt worth bothering with imo, if you look at what else you could get on that budget.
I can vouch for the astra autos being crap on fuel my mum has a 2009 plate and its terrible. Honestly round town I think my spec c is better, im not joking!

yeah, im thinking the 1.8/2L convertible bmw will be abit better for me, i know in the end i'll end up owning the 2.5 turbo subaru just got a quote of 7000 pounds with the turbo model and 1,300 pounds for the stock 2L one so there must be a HUGE difference in proformance... Im only just 17 tho so that might explain why? Only have one years no claims on the fastest production bike in the world, that was 1300 per year insurence! so i thought the turbo subaru would be about 3/4K

Imprezas (as well as many other turbo motors) are very poor while cold mpg wise. OIne warmed up and motorway/A road cruising, they are as good as any petrol turbo motor seeing 25-33 mpg depending on speed and model (ie 6 speed box etc) Dont for a second think imprezas are cheap to fuel though, how often do you get long runs of 20 miles plus with no speeding up/slowing/traffic.

Hi there ...welcome to our site, If you need to ask the question re- mpg, then the impreza is not for you .
they typically average around 19-24mpg (depending on the amounts of modiflication to the engine )
My P1 average 21-24 in 360bhp tune , then when i had the 2.5 forge engine installed its went down to 18-20 mpg (running 460bhp)
having said that ,My previouse E60 M5 only did 11-13 mpg ....and my current E90 M3 averages 15-17 mpg !!
supersport bikes will always give you higher mpg than cars( i had a few )

You will find on a day to day basis you get around 20 mpg rising to 25 mpg on the motorway. Don't kid yourself about it. Anyone who tells you they get 28+ mpg plus is either driving miss daisy or done their sums wrong. They don't respond well to carefull driving and you will not be able to resist the odd blat on any journey.
Hang about, is this a fooking wind up? How can you have had a hayabusa at 17 when you have to 21?? :

I've had a 99 Sport (2.0 non turbo), 2002 GX (2.0 non turbo) and 05 WRX (2.0 turbo) - I havent had more than 20 mpg from any of them, you can't buy a scooby if you're worried about mpg. I've had bikes too, the difference of a safer adrenalin rush is the price of fuel - welcome to our subaru world

i had a e36 318is and from what i can remember(very very long time ago)it was pretty good on petrol...go for the bmw for a first but make sure it has traction control (being 17) as they are prone to be **** happy especially in the wet. wait a few years before you jump into a subaru impreza turbo, get some experience behind you and a good few years ncb...they are a great piece of japanese machinery. i have had a few now and i am bitten by the scooby bug and cant own nothing but.... your time will soon come to own 1 and once it does it will of been worth the wait but be warned they are addictive, expensive, and dam right fakin great

as soon as i passed my motorbike test i got a hayabusa, only suppost to have 33bhp but didn't restrict it, and u have to be 19 not 21 to ride it legally
yeah from what your all saying i would be lucky to get 26mpg from the subaru turbo, and the stock 2L subaru would be pointless and the vids of it makes it looks so slow without the turbo version and some tuning, so its the bmw for me
Cheers

LOL silly question really but prob get between 10 mpg when tearing the *** off it and about 30+ when on a long run.
But if its mpg you want buy a golf gt gti my mate has one up to about 200 bhp loads of toque and still gets 50mpg.
Scoobys are not bought for mpg the bought for mph lol

I've not long bought a bugeye wrx anbd get mid 20's or so. I used to have a classic shape sport and got high 20's (ie 27-28). I really enjoyed owning and driving the sport but please dont be tempted into thinking its a poor mans turbo-wrx. Its handles well and in my humble opinion looks great but the speed is not a ptach on cars in a similar category.

I have never read such a load of old tosh in my life. One minute you want to get a Subaru, or a BMW convertible, (for £2500, good luck with that) the next you've just turned 17, the next you've owned lots of bikes, have presumably just passed your bike test too, ride with no valid insurance......

I agree this does sound like b#%lsh@t, the difference between 35 mpg and 25mpg is a couple of quid, if you can afford to run a hayabusa you can afford an impreza, I have done 750 miles last week in my uk 2000 turbo and have used £150 of fuel, don't know what mpg that is, don't really care, it's a great car to drive and wort every penny
