buying a p1
Hi everyone
i am looking for advice on a p1 on what to look for etc as i have seen one for sale. i have a sti v5 at the mo but not sure if its worth the change. what can i expect from the p1 compared to the v5. both cars are standard so performance should be the same.
any advice would be great, all i know about the car is its up for 8k.
cheers

ive just bought a p1 mate and love it. They are pretty much sti version 5 type r's without dccd but with abs. Different rear spoilers and front splitter, im sure the suspension was revised by prodrive as well, though as you said dont think youll see much difference in performance to what youve got. Personally the look of the p1 is second only to a 22b hence why i bought mine, but each to their own.

i've had my p1 6 years now, i think a two door car always look better, just be carefull as the engine will give up, it may have already and been replaced, just listen for a knock when you rev it! if it is on the way out, you'll finish it off as you will give it some stick when you first get it, good luck whatever you decide

Looking forward to the type-r is better than P1 comments AGAIN.This topic will never change on this forum, its all exploding engines etc etc etc etc.HELLO,its the same engine,if you want positive realistic comments from people with P1,s go to P1WOC if you want to hear all about how fantastic the type-r is with its DCCD that makes absolutely no diffrence to an average driver, this is the right forum.

Well I`v had mine for 2 years now and never regretted buying it
I did a hell of a lot of home work with reguards to buying one
Yes I was worried about the storys of engines going bang around the 50/60 thousands miles, so I decided to buy one with an engine re-build to be on the safe side.
But as said above all ready, defo go on P1WOC site and get as much info as possible from them guys...(as I did)
I do no there is a few on the site for sale that are well worth the 8k your looking to spend.
One other thing your better off with a P1 rather than a Type R, 1 they look nicer and less common
Plus the value of the P1 will reamin much the same as what you paid for it a few years down the line unlike the Type R

yes bull**** but in a certain situation,,,
if its been a 1 owner car and well maintained it should be ok,,, but if its had a 5-6 owners and not been serviced on time then its a different story, the fact is the majority of these have had to be rebuilt so thats no bull****
a friend bought one 4 owner car 52k miles original engine had it 4 months and the bottom end went starting to using oil, he serviced it when he bought it aswell

Your right then, but thats kind of relevant to any car,not just a P1.The best place to look for a P1 is on the P1WOC,because there is a LOT of dodgy ones about, but i found when i was looking for mine, the P1WOC was really helpful, they have a register with a lot of P1,s,so you can try and find out about any individual no,d car, theres a good few since i,ve been on there looking to buy a particular car and been warned off as the history is well known, likewise theres been a lot of excellent cars been had for good money. As said,a lot of bad ones, but a lot of good ones as well,it pays to research.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1027684.htm- why does this seller say STILL on original engine lol
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2011331.htm- again mentioning no need for a rebuild
MOST rebuilt,,,, this is just MY viewpoint and everyone is entitled to their opinion, i WILL always love these but would go for a rebuilt one that has been looked after by an impreza specialist

Doesnt me he never thrased the life out of though does it?
All I'd say is look at a few and go with the one that gives you the best feeling of being cared for, after all its a lottery with any used car.
If you have doubts walk away there will be others

none had interior plaques mate they would of been added by the owner the number is stamped on a plate under the bonnet by the passenger side strut. There are plenty out there with rebuilds mate just find one thats already had it done. The prodrive alcon brakes are much better than standard but very expensive on discs and pads. What i found when looking mate was that most p1's have tons of reciepts mine came with over 16k worth including a 5.5k rebuild last year and i paid less than a lot of people are asking for type r's with little or no history. There are some nice cars on p1woc as said above definately worth a look.

I've got to ask, have you ever driven a type R and played about with the DCCD ?
Anyway, when I was looking for my first scoob it was a toss up between a P1 and a Type R. I'd always loved the look of the P1 and I'll admit they are slightly nicer than a type R
But tbh the price difference just wasnt worth it so I decided on a type R. I honestly cant stress how much fun the DCCD is, why anyone would want to have ABS instead is way beyond me.
For 8K you could get a mint V5 Type R and have lots of change left
Each to there own though

Two reasons price and the DCCD
I liked the idea of adjusting the drive, never realised how much fun it would actually be, I cant wait till it snows
Tbh I really still do love the look of the p1's. I'm sure I've read you can put a DCCD box on a P1, unsure though
I never had the money that would have been required to get a mint P1 so I got a mint type R

My opinion is that a lot of people mod the p1's anyway, suspension gets changed, engines get changed, blah blah blah, so at the end of the day the only real difference is abs and a spoiler plus a limited number, oh and the blue paint
They also seem to not hold there money much more than a decent v5 / v6 type r unless they are really mint, seen a few cheap ones about.

Look this is a simple way to look at it, it`s like picking up a woman on a night in town
P1 = Style, Class, Good looks, Posh, Long Lasting
Type R = Common, Chavey, Guarrented a **** at the end of the night, then nicks your wallet

I notice someones put its more fun in the snow,WTF,have you seen youtube, without snow tyres its useless in the snow,as is any car apart from a Land Rover 110 with military spec tyres.
DCCD is for rally drivers who know what they are doing with it,and anyone who thinks it makes a diffrence in their normal road car is DREAMING.
In my opinion of course
