Default FMIC for Hawkeye STI

Hi all,

Thinking of installing an FMIC on my Hawkeye STI.
Its already been re-mapped with uprated fuel pump, CAIK, full decat, uprated plugs, ported turbo

Few questions:
Having difficulty finding one for a start, any ideas/recommendations?

Also, are they easy to fit or would it be better to get it fitted at a scooby place (I know it will need re-mapping afterwards).

What sort of power gains (if any) should I expect?

Thx

Ronnie

Think Harvey is now selling & fitting them for Hawkeyes.
A lot of hassle TBH unless you are tracking or dragging a lot.
Perhaps 10/20 hp extra.

Thx Butty.

I just PM'd him, hopefully he'll be able to sort me out with one. Big problem is I live in middle of nowhere so will probably need to fit myself!!

To be honest I'm not just doing it for the gains, personally I think they look superb, big rad on the front and ohhhhh that lovely chrome pipework under the bonnet....

What power level are you currently at and what level are you looking to aim towards... i.e. looking to change turbo etc in the near future?

If you are not looking at moving away from your current set-up then save your cash!

The purpose of a FMIC isn't power per se, but rather efficiency and engine safety.

With the classics a front mount if you're upgrading the std turbo is a no brainer. With the new age cars the TMIC is more capable and, depending on your power requirements and intended useage of the car, may be adequate! Concensus of opinion seems to be that they're ok at the 400ish bhp mark - maybe higher if the car is used exclusively on the road.

The only way to know for sure is to buy a charge temp guage off someone like Harvey and see what is happening!

I'm more interested in driving the car than looking at my charge temps! I'm certainly not that bothered losing a few bhp (at my mild level of tune) when it gets a bit warm..... which lets be honest is not a great problem in this country is it!

As regards to efficiency.... yes I would agree. As regards to safety.... that is what my mapper is employed for, so temp compensations are all sorted and the ECU retards ignition / reduces boost, when it needs to. That way I can carry on worrying about how much hammer I will give it in the next corner and not about how much damage the warmer charge is doing to my engine.

Everything has it's place.... including FMIC's which I would never deny. At the level that the OP is at NOW, I am suggesting he may have better things to blow his cash on..... like putting the standard airbox back on!

Currently running at 336bhp.

And to be brutally honest, not too bothered about massive bhp gains but do like the look, but this won't be the last engine mod

Has anyone ever fitted one, are they difficult?

i dont think they are easy, all depends on the level of finish you are going for.

monster hyperflow with Customized pipe work.

If your not planning to go over 400 then i suppose its not needed.

Where did you get that from?
And can I be cheeky and ask how much?

Very Expensive but needed for the power level i could run in the future. Its all dependant on power levels and how long you plan to keep the car. This car will never be sold so i am more willing to try and hunt out the best parts so they last.
