V4 gets you a revised interior and possible front end if it's a late v4 although as said not to sure the quality you will get for 4.5k you would get a very tidy v3 and the fit a v4 front end and dash if you wanted. If it's a v4 you want you may have to go the normal sti

Somethng to consider is I think with the v3 you have to replace the ecu with something like a simtec if you want to mod and map it were the v4 can be ecutek3 on the STD ecu, simtec supplied,'fitted and mapped is near enough 1k before antilag and laugh control is added.
Maybe wrong though

V4 can't be tek'd, V5 onwards can.
V4 is when the dash go updated and V5 is when the front end got updated and the phase 2 engine.
The V4 in the pic in post 3 has had a V5 front end fitted.

There pretty much the same.
Same bhp but V4 has 7 more touque.
My book says at V4 they then fitted forged pistons, but i thought all sti's had them
As said above, you also get the better dash with white dials.
Hang in there bud....i bought a V4 type R 18 months ago with 20K of modds on it,for £4750 and only thing wrong with it was a busted gearbox and unmapped ecu.

V5/V6 for the win, phase 2 engine with the new dash.
But yeah with that money i wouldn't even expect to be able to get one, look for 4 doors.

dont know about that company mate but have a look at svaimports.com they look to have some real nice cars, they are expensive but it gives you a better idea on what the versions look like plus they are fresh imports and they give a years warrenty. I looked here before i bought my p1 and a few people on here gave them the thumbs up, anyway happy hunting.

Hold out and wait for the right car, if you want a type r as said them keep banking the money until you can buy one. Always buy with your head and not impulse / blinded by the first one you see as you have got carried away in the moment and missed it having early signs of a knocking bottom end just cos you really got to have one there n then
Hold out and look on here plenty of good cars come up for sale on this site, it should give you the security that you know it has been well maintained and looked after by an enthusiast not some punk who has decided to become a jap car importer
Best of luck

v3/4
best maf
best heads
worst to tune - needs new ECU
v5/6
compatibility for aftermarket parts with new age models
worst maf
new better look (front/rear spoiler, interior)
easier to tune
better gear ratios
if I remember more, I will post them
