P1 or type R
Hi guys I'm just after a few pointers really today. I've been offered £2700 for my 62000 mile version 1 sti (60000 miles) which is a good runner but has bad bodywork. I only paid £1800 for it so I'm very tempted to take it. I have about 2 or 3 grand I can put towards this money to buy something else so I was thinking about getting a P1 or a type R. Now obviously ive heard people talkin on here bout how good P1s are but I cant see the reasons behind it, aren't they jus a more expensive type r with less kit in it. Please P1 owners point out where Im going wrong, Im a scooby novice compared to most people on here. As it stands tho im gonna get a type R with about 50000-60000 miles on it. All advice greatly appreciated!! so thanks in advance

Your worrys are over mate, cos you wont get a P1 thats worth buying for £6k anyway, and everyone on here will say Type-R,as thats what they favour for some reason.Have a look and see what P1,s your going to get for that money and you,ll see what i mean.P1,s are just worth more because its a better car and will be a classic, only in my P1 owning opinion of course

Get more for your money with the type R. P1 will hold it's value better and if kept in good condition with limited mileage will go up in value over time. 6k isn't gonna get you a good one though.

in 2004 i bought my type r v4 sti costing £11000 had it for 4 years and sold it for 7.5k unfortunatley for me the market had dropped ,but saying that 4k over 4 years aint that bad for a smile every time i got in it.
Ive not had a p1 so cant really comment but personally i would go for the type r as was said earlier the dccd is wicked if you know what your doing with it great fun.
Good luck with your purchase ,im saving up for another one just like this:

Well the P1 has better suspension for UK roads, ABS and all the Prodrive kit which makes it stand out from every other classic on the road including the type r. Also being a UK car you'll have a better idea of the cars history and I bought my from Subaru so got a one year warranty. Go for the Type R if you want DCCD but personally I thought it was a bit gimmicky. There's some really good spec P1 going for cheap on P1woc.com (a top owners club) so check them as you could get a real bargain for what will be a future classic. Being a bit more expensive they're not half as popular with the chavs as the type rs either. I think like or not the P1 is seen as the Impreza to have and this will be reflected in the resale price, but either way both are great cars and not hugely different in terms of driving experience.

Again....really?? Can we get a Type-R vs P1 sticky on here to avoid the constant need for this??
I owned a 22B (similar to the Type-R set up) and P1 at the same time and preferred the P1 on most occasions.....go for what you want after driving the two

P1 stands out compared to a type R? Ok mate, whatever you say. They all come in blue apart from the few prototypes, so how do they stand out? I have seen plenty of chavvy P1s advertised. They are not more desirable, just overpriced. I would say the 22b is the one to have (reflected by the price) and it's a collectors' car, but that is also overpriced.
Skeg Vegas, go for the type R mate you will love it

Type R it is then. Sorry P1 owners but I cant see the appeal other than the prodrive name that goes with it. Sold my sti for 2500k so just need another 2 or 3 k and that should get me quite a good one with about 50-60000 on the clock, accordin to auto trader anyway!

surely not..........
The ONLY reason I bought I type R over a P1 is because of this and I've got to say I'm very happy I did, what a toy it is !
