Default ecutek remap

recently purchased a 2001 wrx, which had a ecutek remap in 2006. have licence at hand. Since remap the car has had a full 3" exhaust system fitted with high flow sports cat and induction kit, also have uprated fuel pump. Firstly would it be benefical to have another remap, also having called the mapper who did this in 2006, they said they want £500 plus vat to re remap it. does this price sound ok? thx

That price doesn't sound okay for an ECU that already has the licence on it, it's decidedly over the top for what would be a few tweaks rather than an out and out remap.

Without wanting to cause undue worry, I wouldn't describe a remap as "beneficial" under these circumstances. Given both the exhaust changes, and especially, the induction kit, on top of the existing custom tune, a remap, or at very least a once-over by an experienced tuner, should be considered essential/urgent.

In the state the car is being run at the moment, I would be a little concerned about the on-boost air-fuel ratios. If it has been properly mapped on the standard induction tract, the combination of leaning caused by the induction alterations and possible boost spiking resulting from the exhaust changes is potentially unpleasant. It can be problematic on standard cars, and is likely to be moreso on yours as the previous remap is likely to have removed a lot of the factory safety margin.

If the car hasn't been mapped for the induction kit, the best short-term response to that would be to get rid of it and refit the standard parts, if you have them. You can then take a view on whether to refit them after you've put your car in front of a tuner. Bob will point you in the right direction.

hi splitpin, thanks for the info, sometimes when on full tap i get the eml flash but put this down to low fuel in tank sometimes as missus drives it and she never fills it ;(,
i also thought the 500 plus vat tag was alittle high.... hence the post. thx again for the info

There's no way being low on fuel will ever put the CEL on! As splitpin says you are dicing with danger running the motor as is mate, get it mapped properly asap

Korrosiv - have read posts on here from other bugeye owners saying the same thing, the cel doesny come on when low, it comes on when i fill up again after running the car very low on fuel, think dirt must be passing thro the system and throwing up a light ?, OR as above it may need looking at asap.

Contact Ecutek to check the price and mention where at etc,
GGR are normally very good Ive used them in the past may times, when you rang did you ask for a Map tweak or a full remap?
If all else fails as mentioned there are other Ecutek mappers who can help.

when i spoke to GGR i explained what the situation was and they said it just needed a quick alteration . bloke on phone was very useful tbh, plus this car has had alot of work done at GGR inc their own full system turbo back, etc .... so would have prefered to go back to them, but consider the £500 plus vat abit high considering it needed a "quick alteration".

Very high considering it only needs a tweak.

I normally charge around £150 for map tweaks.

£500 ex VAT is a typical price for a full remap at the start, including the £200ish licence fee. You'd get up to 6ish hours input for that.
Subsequent remapping should be at an hourly price of the mapper.
IMO the mods you've added should take no more than 3 hours as long as there are no issues, so that £500 quote is OTT.

Zen Performance at Wellingborough are well known Ecutek mappers and is in easy reach from you.

Never had an issue with my Bug-eye tbh. only time I ever had the CEL light up at full whack was a miss-fire due to a cracked spark plug? Been running 325bhp with a lead foot for nearly a year now. Hadn't realised there were issues RE low fuel.

As above £500 is a bit OTT for tweaks! £150 sounds a bit more like it mate.

No point contacting Ecutek - they don't regulate mapping prices
All they want is the initial license fee

Morning Simon!

To confirm JGM does our Simtek and ecutek classic 99/00 mapping. We carry out all our 2001-2007 mapping inhouse, and have done for quite sometime now.

As far as the original post goes, depends what state the car was in when mapped. GGR are the only ones to officially have access to their original map to tweak the settings, anyone else( ourselves included) would need to start a map from scratch, no problem though.

First of all worth getting it properly data logged either on road or dyno to see how it's fuelling, checking for det etc and go from there. Map tweak fairly inevitable though.
