Default Should I be worry?

hi
So i went to europe on friday night, after 850 miles (and a lap of the ring in middle o journey), about a mile from destination temp gauge went up. Stopped on side of road, opened a bonnet and found water bursting from damaged top radiator hose, switched engine off when gauge was 2/3 up. Should I be worry about head gasket?. I temporary fixed a leak, engine sounded good but I was driving only a mile to get to my parents house (engine was still cold).
cheers
Les
