Default Twincharged impreza ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twincharger

"A twincharging system combines a supercharger and turbocharger in a complementary arrangement, with the intent of one component's advantage compensating for the other component's disadvantage.
It is a combination of an exhaust-driven turbocharger and an engine-driven supercharger, each mitigating the weaknesses of the other. A belt-driven supercharger offers exceptional response and low-RPM performance as it has no lag time between the application of throttle and pressurization of the manifold. Combined with a large turbo which would offer unacceptable lag and poor response in the low-RPM range, the proper combination of the two can offer a zero-lag powerband with high torque at lower engine speeds and increased power at the higher end"

Anyone ever heard of one on an impreza? I've read a few mentions of there being a kit for us, but cant find any real car with this setup

Surely it's a really interesting idea and doesnt seem to be too costly either.

VW OEM twin charger

http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2...en-twincharger

It uses an electronic clutch (like an AC fan clutch) to disengage the supercharger when the turbo spools up so that you get great low end AND high end without the super bogging your engine down at high speeds.

Yes, quite a few supercharged+turbo Imprezas have been floating round in the USA for quite some time:

Nobody bothers over here though. I think too many people are too acceptable of lag and mid-rev spool up, or like the turbo kick too much to get rid of it. TBH those traits are the reason why I won't touch another turbocharged car ever again (diesels excepted for economy reasons).

Now I've driven more high power cars without lag and instant throttle reponse, it becomes so much more intolerable when I jump in a turbo'd car that suffers from it, even in the slightest amount.

That's a nice link, but obviously its too much custom work and a bit of an overkill.
I'd really settle for a supercharger to go with my gt35r to make the car less bothersome to drive on the street, but it seems you'd need to go to the states to do something like that.

AVCS and twin scroll turbo's have pretty much put an end to doing this.

2.5 with Avcs and twin scroll will only get you 350-400 bhp max with 3k rpm spool

Supercharger will spool from 1.4k rpm and produce power untill 4k rpm where you can shut it off and have your big 500bhp + turbo take over.

So, much faster spool and much bigger bhp, plenty of difference.
