Waxing - how often?
My Impreza is crystal grey and I wax it with Auto Glym High Definition wax.
I dont really want any advice on using other types of wax as I am happy enough but what I need to know is how often I ought to be waxing it?
An old colleague of mine who is a former mechanic reckons once every three months.
I had been waxing it about fortnightly but he the says that its way too often and I'll get an excessive biuld up of wax. I havent noticed such a thing yet.
Any thoughts???

he is right with waxing to often, but it also depends on how much you put on, how often you wash your car & what you wash it with!
If you use a ph neutral shampoo this will not strip the wax of the car but gently was it, helping the wax to last longer, if you use cheap shampoo/traffic film remover type wash it will almost definitely strip the wax after one or two washes.
Best time to re wax is when the car paintwork does not bead as much which should be a sign that the wax has/is wearing off

If you are using the car every day, day its parked outside on a main road, i would do it every two to three weeks, and you will jet a nice build up of wax. If you dont park your car outside on a busy road, them once a month would be fine. DONT use power washes, and always use a PH Neutral shampoo, and you wont go wrong. And if you get bored, you can do mine toooooooo :-))

I just last weekend glazed my DBM Bug with Poorboys Black Hole Glaze and waxed with Poorboys Natty Blue Wax. It smells great and went on well. In the sun, the flecks in the paint are really popping.
I plan to wash and dry it then wax it with Autoglym HD Wax, I bought two pots in the Halfrauds BOGOF deal. Meant to be magic stuff.

I find that the Auto Glym high definition also really brings out the flecks in the crystal grey paint

Once your car is properly waxed, each fresh coat you put on will be removed as you buff it off.
2 coats will ensure you have covered every mm of your car. Morethan that is a waste. When water begins to cease beading, then apply another coat.
As previously mentioned, with a light coloured car such as yours, a n acrylic sealant will give better results than a wax. Werkstatt is a good option.

Just swapped from autoglmn to chemical guys 50/50 paste which is new on the market and I like it
Make sure you use a top quality shampoo like chemical guys at £9 but it has lAsted for a year as you only use a small amount
I just wax twice a year June before the show season and November in prep for the winter
