does my 93 wrx need cat for mot
hi was wondering if my wrx needed a cat 4 the mot as im being told no by some people due to the age but i had a 93 wrx last year and it faied on emmisions until i put a cat on it even thou im told these dont come with a cat originally any info would be much appreciated thanks as mot due next week

Yes it came with a cat as standard, if you go by the letter of the law then yes it needs a cat to pass the emissions, dates back to 1989 that if the car is fitted with a cat it needs it on there for emissions, by 1st jan 1993 it was law that all cars have a cat as standard fitment in the UK.

I also believe (not proven or tried), that if your engine is from a pre-1991 car ie you have a CDB from an early Leggy then the car will be tested to the emissions test limits of a car with no cats. As long as you don't have huge plumes of black smoke pouring out the exhaust, you should pass.
As said, not proven, just mentioned to me in passing a few years back by an MOT inspector. All it takes apparently is a letter written by yourself that proves to the MOT inspectors satisfaction that it is a pre-1991 engine in the car.
