Default How do you all warm up and cool down your car

As above, Just curious to see how you all do this. I basically make sure it is way off boost till up to temperature. Then, to cool down, just coast back home for the last 2 or 3 miles.

Thats what I tend to do and give double the amount of time for oil to warm up than the water takes before I boot it.

But my car has a turbo timer so often it will run for a few minutes anyways after using her.

Nothing special, I tend to take it easy until its warmed up and also at the end of the journey. There's no special need to leave idling on the drive for 5 minutes before you start off, just get in and use it!

Wise, it also gives the brakes and transmission fluid a chance to cool down as well

i usually let my cars and bikes idle for 30 seconds before moving off from a cold start

When I start off I don't give it the beans until the engine oil temp has reached 70-80c, when I stop I tend to coast it for the last 2 miles and when stopped leave it for around 20 seconds to idle.

neighbours would love me sitting letting her idle with a 3" bore hks hi power for a minute before i headed out to an early shift!!
Drive off boost an below 2500rpms till oil temp is above 80ish. thats about 3 miles or so. After a motorway run or a bit of fun I have a route thats got a lot of long gradients that i can coast down in gear etc.
I remember reading about old renault 5 turbos and managing their temperatures and one renault garage suggested turning the heating and fan on full to lower the temp a little.
Never noticed a blind bit of difference on the guages in my sti5 apart from me sweating.
Ill keep doing it coz it keeps me happy in my little world.

First post, hello! I picked my first scooby up yesterday and loving it, been warming it up and cooling it down a few mins on each drive.
However, my drive to work is like less than 5mins, so i was wondering if it would harm the engine driving it without using any boost and then turning it off? If not ill just leave the scoob at home most days n drive the van to work or even....... ride a bicycle!!

Constant very short drives is not a good thing as most engine damage/wear occurs before the oil is fully up to temp. Id be taking the van or bike instead of a 5 min drive. Hope you enjoy the new car fella.
