Default 2006 STI 2.5 Retarding Ignition?

Hi All,

What sort of things would cause a 2.5 STI 2006 to retard the ignition?
I have had it on Tesco's 99 now for two weeks but it still holds back between 2000 and 3000 rpm.
No warnning lights or smoke etc.

Hi,
Yes I did a data record and a mapper said it was retarding the ignition. We thought it was because its always been run on Sainsburys petrol but three weeks of Tesco's 99 and its only a tiny bit better.

it could be the ecu has self learnt on the lesser mortals fuel and is struggling to get right again if you took the battery of for the night then the residule energy would go out of the ecu and youd loose the old paramiters and you could start it from fresh which would relearn on the 99 ron.

The mappers say that disconecting the battery makes no differance on 06 on cars etc, none volotile ECU memories etc?
What sort of things, sensors would cause it?

Its there if its a gentle throttle or a hard throttle. Once over 3000 its fine.
Sometimes it goes a way for a day or two then back.

defo asensor/electrical problem then but with no obvious problem showing that leads me to think that the source is the ecu which wouldnt throw up afault as it comes from there in the first place,id take it off to be tested if it was mine mate.

Dealer is worse than hopeless in most cases as they have far less data than most mappers available.

From the logs I saw it was definitely retarding the ignition. if it is still doing this on the tesco99 then maybe try a tank of vpower to see if that is better.

I would need to look at it and datalog using better parameters than are available through ecuexplorer though - they are just a bit wrong in a lot of cases in that software and limited in scope.

Could be anything from problem with the engine/map to a dodgy vibration in the engine bay or heat shield rattling that is causing it.

Yes but would need to log a lot more fields than you did the last time.

Might be easier if you and I hook up sometime as you are pretty local.

yeah would be great! The car had AST susspension fitted etc when I got the car but standard exhaust. Was thinking if it could have been mapped with de-cat etc and then all fitted back before selling? Would that give same results do you think?

sounds like it's had a re-map..probably for V-power..hence why anything else is making it retard back...
