Hawkeye bonnet scoop repairs -DIY?
A pigeon has alterted the number of vertical pillars my bonnet scoop has.
It's a MY07 hawkeye WRX in urban grey metallic I have.
The damage is only that the centre plastic pillar is missing.
I've had a look under the bonnet at the scoop fixings. It looks like replacing the plastic part of the scoop assembly could be within my DIY capabilties.
Have you had a scoop with bird strike damage? Did you DIY or get someone else to fix it?
Any idea on part numbers, and costs? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, the scoops are ABS. If you can get hold of some ABS, or Styrene sheet from a modelshop, and bottle of "Plastic Weld" or similar ABS solvent, repairs can be done. Once it's set it can be sanded back to shape.
Edited to say: if buying solvent, make sure to tell the model shop it's for ABS. That stuff will also do styrene, but styrene solvent won't do ABS
I repaired a broken spoiler light fixing the same way.

Thanks for the posts.
I found the missing plastic pillar among 'other bits' barbecuing on the intercooler so I could try the repair, and have the 2nd choice of removing all of the pillars depending on the results
It looks like it would be possible to get better access to the scoop by undoing all those nuts and bolts. Is it a straightforward job?
cheers

Yes, undo the bolts and it comes straight off. It's what I'd do. Allows you to get some polish UNDER it too, where it sits on the bonnet.
And replace the nuts, bolts and washers with stainless www.yell.com, bolt and nut stockists or screwfix.

That's the glue I'll be buying - unless I get an update here to say other wise
Should be plenty left for other bird strikes.
Cheers.
Glue worked well. The repair seems solid and so far so good with the test drives
