Time Attack - Timing?

Time Attack - Timing?
Although the day was great at Brands - in spite of a pretty poor trade turnout, I have to say that the timing of events needs a bit of a 'look at' By the time the Time Attack finals were due, hundreds of people had had enough and gone home! It's the main event of the day and deserves a slot at a more sensible time. Due to the time I had to leave, I have no idea who won! Maybe shuffle things around to bring the finals forward and put one of the demo's at the end?

Sometimes (infact very often) the competitors need time between sessions to fix problems/make changes to the car.
Asking them to hurry up, or leave problems un-fixed, just because people want to go home early is a bit of a joke IMO

It was the first time we'd visited, and we enjoyed the whole thing! many thanks to Cosworth for the tickets..
I used to race at Brands decades ago, and it was surprising to see how much had changed, but also how little, in terms of the feel of the place.
I recall walking around the track at five am the first time I went there, drinking in the atmosphere, hallowed ground indeed.
I remarked to the chaps how we used to all troop into the bar after practice at lunchtimes, propping it up with a pint in one hand, then go racing in the afternoon!
Fair play to the guys doing the TA, clearly very fast cars, impressive speed going into the drop at Paddock. I still have some gravel from the trap there, recovered from the car having been punted off into it from flat in top three quarters of the way past the pits. The run off wasn't as much then, and I ended up a foot from the tyres, just a bit sweaty.
I'd say the drive of the day was split between the Sumo GT35's, you have to love the noise, and the racing truck, who was absolutely going for it, sliding like a drift car.

When I competed at Brands in the mid/late '60's there was no run off at Paddock, just a bloody big banking! I remember losing it at Paddock and halfway through a real tank slapper, deliberately spinning the Mini to avoid going into the banking. Can't believe how quick thinking I was back then!

The run off at Paddock has recently been reduced (was done in Dec/Jan i think)
For the last few years it was so wide cars could go a few feet over the red and white kerb and still be on the concrete

The timetable is prob a bit long for some... but the final really does need to be late in the afternoon.

We traveled 4.5 hours to attend.
Got there at 9. Had a look at all of the cars, had a blast in a drift taxi (well recommended). Stayed the whole day – right up to and after the evo coming off on the first bend and losing a bumper. All in all we thought it was a great day - as an event I thought it was better than Knockhill though I think their drift track was more entertaining.
Roll on Cadwell park!!!

As to the real reson for my attendance was to yes to see other peoples cars to see what other have done get idear's for my own project also to look at the stalls see if i could spend some money but couldn't find anything.
Right to be realy honest maybe i was i little harsh as to the track show but it was very long winded and with the heat of the day i just went home a couple of years ago i went and you could walk the pits and have a close look at the cars and talk to some of the drivers with some tvr racing and some kind of pick up truck racing to wich was held in heats and that was very good so as to the event i feel its gone backwards but that is my opinion

great times i no but although i was only timeing on a stop watch so maybe not so spot on but on a track day at brans i done it in 59sec running only 330 bhp and the worst default a car can have me behind the wheel so are they fast or slow ?? what your opinion ladsshould i be impresed with them or myself i no who i would like to

Assuming the talent is equal, it takes a LOT more power/handling to knock off those last few seconds! It's a bit like 0-60 in 4.5 secs with 330bhp and only knocking off 0.5 sec with an extra 70 bhp! The law of diminishing returns bites you on the bum.
